Kaan Wallah
Well this thread is hilarious. Someone mentioned it being only recently that they've seen these Ear-men. Quite the contrary. This is one of those ancient dying professions along with the massage wallah, street barbers, which generations follow in their ancestors footsteps.
If you go back to think since how long these people have existed to use such ancient methods instead of going to the ENT, you will realise what premium Indians placed on hygiene Centuries ago and what they still do. Most of the street barbers and ear cleaners provide an inexpensive service to the poor and the POOR who cannot afford ENT's make use of this. See the relation? Even the poor people in India get the ears cleaned with whatever they can afford! Haha some of them seem to have found innovative methods though, startling with a cleaner near your ear drum, the poor guy must be scared to move! |

Ear Cleaning
The comments brought a smile to my face. I have had this happen, the Ear Men have tried may times at Anjuna market. This year my brothers and myself decided to time how long it was until one of us was attacked by the stick in the ear. On parking our scooters it took all of 5 seconds to be approached.
