Hello,
I booked a tour package from one travel agent in internet.
The travel agent told me they works under the India Ministry tourism plus

And I pay full amount to my travel agent,
they confirmed my booking simply in email but without the receipt.

So I would like to know should I ask for the receipt?
And anyone knew about India Ministry tourism plus?

Thanks!!!

You could have come here before booking the travel/tour package.

Sadly, Google couldn't trace anything like "India Ministry tourism plus".

Tomma,

If you can block your payment, then do so. Otherwise get a charge-back from your credit card company (I hope you paid by credit card). As Prakaant says, there is no official scheme called "India Ministry tourism plus".

Now for the nitty gritty.

The principal officially recognised industry bodies for the travel trade in India are;
Travel Agents’ Association of India (TAAI)

Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI)

The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO)

The IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI)

The official Government sites related to tourism are:
The Ministry of Tourism - http://tourism.gov.in/ &

Incredible India - http://incredibleindia.org/
Any Ministry of Tourism officially 'Approved' Travel Agents would fall under the following schemes, and they would proudly display their accreditation:
Quote:
Guidelines for recognition / renewal or extension as an Approved adventure tour operator (ATO)

Guidelines for recognition / renewal or extension as an Approved domestic tour operator (DTO)

Guidelines for recognition / renewal or extension as an Approved inbound tour operator (ITO)

Guidelines for recognition / renewal or extension as an Approved tourist transport operator (TTO)

Guidelines for recognition / renewal or extension as an Approved travel agent / agency (TA)

For example, to get a Ministry of Tourism accredited and 'Approved' DTO status, the agent would have to qualify for and apply for the same using this form:

http://tourism.gov.in/sites/default/...el%20Agent.pdf

I hope you recover your money.

For future readers, you can check the Government's approval status of any Travel Agent by going to this Government of India site:
http://etraveltradeapproval.nic.in/approvalsummary.aspx

Just select 'All' from the drop-down box and click on 'Get Report'

It will list the number of approved agents, category-wise and state-wise. Click on the number in the State and type of operator you're interested in and it will list them:

First of all, there are many, many good agents who are not members of trade bodies. Not all of them apply for Government approval either. I hope your agents are genuine; but their claim that they are members of the "India Ministry tourism plus" scheme would raise my suspicions.

Try and ascertain from their website whether they are affiliated with any of the above trade bodies. See if they have a contact number and call them. Their response may assure you that they are genuine. If you have indeed been cheated, then yes, you could contact the police, but that would be very very hard to do without a proper address, phone number and person who could be held accountable. It will be even more difficult to pursue this from overseas.

If all fails, then try and get your money back via charge-back if you have used a credit card. Otherwise, treat it as a life-lesson.

(Tomma, you could PM aarosh or myself with the website of the agent and the tour you booked, and we can try and see whether it is genuine).
