In busy places like Bombay you can try saying as my girlfriend used to do, in a rather loud voice so other people can hear, "NO I DO NOT WANT TO BUY ANY DRUGS FROM YOU" and they very quickly scuttle away.....

I was just thinking I just say"goodbye" to people, they get quire confused. Goodbye is a goodbye kinda word, understood everywhere. In bangalore, the chess people think "fuck off" is "no thank you".

What do you think is better - to ignore the person (not my style), or to address the person?
In New York, I just used to look the person in the eyes and say say "it's copasetic" when someone accosted me and it worked like a charm every time. Maybe there's a Hindi word or an Indian slang that means, basically, "I am fine without you"?

In Goa 2yrs ago we were asked almost everyday if we wanted drugs, a firm'NO' always did the trick. We spent a lot of time on various beaches frequenting the beach shacks, one such place in Anjuna actually served us a lump of dope with our drinks.."Enjoy" said the owner...it remained untouched in its foil when we left.

Ok..so..HYPOTHETICALLY....
If I WANTED to get drugs. Marijuana, Hash, Opium, Black tar...
Would it be easily accessible? Do you have to worry about cops dressing up as street people and trying to do undercover busts?
I smoke marijuana, not avidly, but I do enjoy it now and again..
It would be amazing to smoke some ganj or hash in India..
So..how about it? Seems im the only one here that would openly like to get STONED in India..
People just walk up to you on the street and offer you drugs?

Hi, Nirmala, good to see another Tenneseean. GO BIG ORANGE! Ha, just kidding....

Stay away from anything (a shoeshine, handbag, earcleaning, or hashish) that someone walks up to you and offers on the street. Don't get openly stoned.

Of course travellers and locals do it here. I personally choose not to. My acquaintances who do are very discreet and do it only with persons *known* to them, not total strangers who offer.

Everything involving foreigners has a tendency to escalate quickly and illegalities even more so. I encourage you to stay well on the right side of the law while visiting on a tourist or any other visa.

I dont think I would be smoking anything WITH anyone other than myself and my travel partner (boyfriend) but as far as a quick buy for some hash or ganja, I was just wondering if its something I should be worried about..legally. I know here you have to be worried about undercovers, etc..I didnt know if that would be a problem in India.
And another thing..

This is a travel site, not a drug information site. And it is particularly not a site for advising people how to score.

Having said that... we've tightened up a bit recently, due to one or two threads that we felt became a little too indiscreet.

And, India being India, we are hardly going to be able to maintain not mentioning it at all...

So search the site, you will find at least general advice --- but no specifics, please!

Please do remember that it is illegal in India and you do not want to see the inside of an Indian police station, let alone an Indian jail

I realize this is a travel site and not a drug information site. I really dont think I have asked for any real information regarding "drugs" or more accurately, illegal substances directly and I CERTAINLY have not asked for specific information on how to OBTAIN illegal substances directly.

Anyways, I dont think I asked anything out of the way and I do appreciate the prompt, respectful responses!! I wouldn't have even expected my questions to even go over this well

Maybe it was my naivety, but, I really wouldnt have expected this subject to come up AT ALL. Ive never been out of this country (USA) and it seems a little odd/strangely fascinating.
