Customs trying to "save paper"?

Hi there,

Upon immigration at Delhi airport, the customs official put the immigration stamp on the page in my passport which is opposite my old, expired indian visa (This page already had an old immigration stamp on it) instead of opposite the current visa. I got somewhat suspicious and when I asked about it, some three other officials approached me, grabbing my arm and tapping me on my shoulder telling me that this was a measure to "save valuable paper" and it wasn`t a problem. I can`t believe it...

Is this normal? Or am I in trouble when I want to leave India?

Martin

I have an Indian Immigration stamp on the page opposite an expired Chinese Visa and another Mumbai Immigration stamp on a blank page.

I'm sure there's no need to worry!

It's not where the stamp goes that matters; it's just the fact that it has to be there somewhere. Once your PP fills up, there won't always be a space on the page directly opposite your Indian visa. I have assorted stamps and assorted visas and there is no spatial correlation.

And saving space in your PP is a worthy endeavor. Once the booklet fills up, you have to send it back to your government to have new pages sewn in. And the Indian visa takes up a whole page . . .

Why would they want to troupbe you when you leave? If they want to trouble you, it will most probbaly be during arrival . There is not much they can do when you are leaving.

I wish they would do that with mine - every customs official seems to think that each stamp needs it's own PAGE. So they've almost worked their way to the end and soon it's going to take 1/2 an hour to find the right visa for this particular trip!!
