Children-don't buy or give money

There are a lot of children begging or trying to sell you trash things.

Please don't give at least 1 rupie or 1 paisa to them-no matter dancing or cleaning shoes!

There are several reasons why children are begging:

1. Parents force them to beg. A very comfortable way of making money for the lazy parents instead of going to work early in the morning.

2. Children don't like to go to school. Getting money from tourists is so easy for them. What can the parents do to make them go to school instead of begging? Nothing.

3. Selling small thing to tourist is more effective to get quick ("small children look so cute") and more money from tourists.

4. Don't stay in hotels or eat in restaurants, where children are working.
Talk to the owner that this is not right and that children should go to school. It is not comfortable in your holiday to deal with these things, but the situation of the working-child is more uncomfortable.
Even in India childlabour is forbidden.

Hope to show you good reasons not to engage children to beg by giving money to them.

Please spend money to organisations who help street-children.

I agree with you however ...sometimes you can just make exception.Everything you wrote here is obvious - but it will be still the same - typical TURISTS will be still same, ladies will still put a lot of money to those so CUTE childrens,to fake babas, etc and believe their Karma will be better etc..its lot of cliche.,Turists will buy a crap stuff over priced etc, paying a 10000 rp per nights,etc..its a world wide issue...

I did few exeptions in my life .- I took a small bagger for a Thali and stuff like that nothing more.Sometimes gave a 5- 10 rupies to somebody.take somebody for Chai etc..

you cannot change it.

But I agree with you...

Just to add - giving alms to a beggar is illegal in Delhi and punishable by law - the chance of you having to pay a fine because you got caught doing it , or a cop even bothered is very very remote though..
