always wanted a photu with steve waugh...
but alas - [sigh] snonymous: the south has been touchy-feely for quite sometime now - and the felt-up's are indian girlies. nope - it aint about u.p., bihar or delhi. there are horrendous incidents involving bangalore ... flashing and the whole sheedoodledum that follows. its just that down south, one can still beat the crap out of them guys - but them days too, maybe drawing to a close. :brishti |

Having seen your girlfriend, M_V, I don't understand it either! I know which of the two of you I'd want in my photo!

You would be surprised how cowardly these guys usually are and how some other folk will help as soon as this kind of incident becomes public; that aside, for one reason or another, the lady getting harrassed further has never happened in my experience- although that is the primary concern.
(and this is part of an earlier post of mine- which I had then deleted.) Sometimes you get whacked back. But sometimes you do what you have to do. |

catcalls - whistling - lurid comments, what was generally known as eve-teasing... is nothing compared to what goes on nowadays.
what happens, when the woman is on her own? [and she dont know nuthin about kung-fu]... and nobody is interested in her trying-to-set-the-matter-right? folks around can be very non-involved. i am not even talking about vacation time. i am talking about coming back home in broad daylight - and then be confronted by 1/2 neanderthals who are jerking off in front of you. do you have any idea - how jaw-dropping that is? first of all - its a ohmygod and you're literally ![]() then realisation sets in - what the hell are you supposed to do??? kick them? what if you miss? WHAT??? :brishti i am waiting for feedback here! seriously. |

amen to that...! well said...!
during a week long trip to the spiti valley this past summer, my travel mate (a spanish lady who i'd met at the valley of flowers a couple of years earlier) was extremely thankful that with me around she didn't exactly have to bother about keeping sayin' no to all n sundry who wanted pix taken with her or would trouble her for a thousand other possible things...! u bet, there apparently are a thousand of them...! had never realised about the seriousness of the problem till she explained things to me... i guess, being a guy, one doesn't really need to bother about things like a bunch of gals wanting to take a pic with poor ol' me...! unfortunately, such an occurence has never yet happened and is unlikely to either...! ![]() Last edited by solo_trekker : Apr 4th, 2008 at 20:05. Gross... I think I'll have to wash my brain out with soap and water for that one! folks around can be very non-involved. Or. to put it another way, nobody gives a damn. Maybe people born here will tell me I was wrong, but I used to think that if anything happened to me on the street here, that at least people would stop to find out what happened; that it was London where people just walked past looking the other way. Now I think that is not right. There is a fear of getting involved. There is a fear of having anything to do with reporting anything to the police, in case they nab the nearest person... you. There is a fear of "accidents" being some sort of bait for robbery. |

EEEUCKH! niiiiiiiick
[ even though i did have a giggle ] honestly - it was quite a horrific experience. about folks getting involved - yea, i think it has to do with the law and unenforcement complexities. however - there are still them folks, few and far between, but still a smattering of them who do get involved. but i wonder at the brashness of display of sexual perversion all over the country - wonder what the root cause is. and it only seems to get bolder - unfortunately. :brishti |

It's called cowardice or prudence, depending on your point of view. The police fear is usually not a middle class one; I doubt if I would be picked up if I were an innocent bystander; if I looked poor, maybe, but this fear is not as widespread as it appears. Bottom line, pun intended- we can dissect these fears, or we can each do something about shit that we see, in whatever way seems appropriate to us as individuals. |

i then leapt to my feet and shouted "is there a police officer in this car?" (they often are, in uniform or under cover--sadly, this time, they were not.) my fellow passengers apparently though *I* was the crazy one for possibly instigating a confrontation with the man, and encircled me protectively. he fled the train at the next stop, with me, still shouting after him "you pig!" i think i just snapped third time around. had seen more than enough strangers' genitals for one month, thank you very much. i agree with the captain, these guys are cowards, and it's a cowardly form of violation.
