Airport cab to hotel, etc. - Scam?!?!
In the international terminal, in january 2009 there was a prepaid taxi booth at the exit door, on the right hand side. With Kumily question I cannot help you.

Long time, back I have travelled in Kerala (of course by Train) to places such as Palghat, Kottayam and Trivandrum. No doubt that taxis were over charging but not to such a great extent. But Jarman's experience is horrible. I wanted to visit Kerala with family. Now dropped that idea. I feel Tamilnadu is better place for tourists.

Don't expect that tyep of services.Concept in most of the airports or railway stations is:
Taxi or Auto (either prepaid or one you can engage) is available to reach different parts of the city only. After reaching that spot you have to make your other arrangements to reach destinations outside the city by way of bus or train or taxi, etc.
Thanks guys, this forum has been very interesting. Unfortunately the details concerning Mumbai are a few years old now and I was wondering if any of you could advise me.
I arrive in Mumbai next week at about 1am, I have been quoted Rs900 by the Hotel in Fort for a hotel cab to fetch me. Is this the best option? It sounds expensive to me but at that time in the morning I'm concerned about getting a cab at a reasonable price, and even more concerned about being stranded there till the morning.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I leave on Monday 15Feb.

Thanks for the advice, I reckon I'll take the prepaid taxi instead. Was just concerned about the time I'd be arriving but that doesn't seem to be a problem.

Try Meru Cabs. U can google & visit their website for more details. They are reliable & meters are not tampered nor overcharge passengers by revolving around the city.

These scams are often more a function of an individual driver rather than a specific cab company & it's perceived/posted business etiquette.

Hello there!
Sorry I did not read the full thread, but the first entries and the last... and seeing that they are already some time ago I wanted to ask what the prices for the taxi are now?
We have a hotel in M.G Road in Cochin which should be in the middle of town. How much would a pre-paid taxi be? did the prices rise a lot?

Important advice:
When taxi drivers suggest taking you to someplace other than where you asked, you should say "My friend/husband/wife is waiting for me there." That gives them no way to keep saying your hotel has closed down, burned down, too expensive, not good, etc.

Below prices are for Hotel in MG Road to airport, Airport to Hotel maybe 100 to 150 rpsless.
During daytime approx 500 - 600rps by car.
Night time approx 700 - 800 rps by car.
It can take up to 1 to 1&1/2 hrs if traffic is heavy.
I say by car because you could take a Auto rickshaw but too long a journey for a Tuk Tuk plus you probably have your baggage
to consider and the last thing you want is to feel like a shaken up milkshake at the other end.

Thank you for the reply, we have been, arrived in night and paid 550 Rupees. So thank you for the advice and yes, I was glad we had a car and not a 'tuk-tuk' which is a nice way to call those things...
Thanks!

Thanks!
