I was staying at an average three star hotel in Amritsar, was feeling a bit hungry, and called room service and asked for something like pakoras or samosas. The man delivered them. I began to eat them. They were very salty. I had eaten most of the plate when suddenly there was a pounding on my door. The man begged me for the food back, claiming it was a mistake and meant for some other person. I explained I had eaten it and he apologized, said they were meant for some obnoxious woman on a different floor. There WERE some demanding guests upstairs, so it could be. well, he left.

To make a long story short, I went to sleep so deeply that I urinated in my bed. Humiliating, have never done this before. Anyone know what could have been in this food?

I was so ill the next three days I couldn't leave the hotel, missed my train, ended up in a gypsy volvo bus to Delhi, another story!

But what the hell really was going on I never figured out. The hotel was glad to be rid of me. Probably blew their laundry quota.

Interested in any theories.
Will be silly for samosas.

I feel sorry for you!

You should have taken medical help and should have filed a police complaint against those people? These type of people are ruining the name of country.

First I find it silly of the hotel to do this even for an obnoxios guest. This is plain Crime and not a Prank at all.
They surely needed some serious damage of reputation either by police or making some noise and letting the other guests know. (the obnoxious woman included) BUT in a state of bad health , I doubt you had thoughts for this.

Now coming to what it was - Well not sure what they used? but my guess is some local medicine for flushing ones insides out.
Bike rides - Kashmir to Leh and Sikkim, Jungle safaris - Corbett,Chikhaldara, Kanha and Gorumara. Traveled through MP, Himachal, J&K, Maharashtra, W.Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Goa, Karnataka, AP . . . Yet feel so New to traveling in India.

Perhaps the demanding guests were expected to urinate in their bed. Salty taste could be a diuretic called furosemide.

What an awful story. Other than going to the police I would have threatened them I'd have this experience posted on every blog on the internet if I wasn't compensated for the cost of my room..at least. And of course it would be all over the internet forums and blogs anyway...

I am a bit surprised no one has commented on this post further. I'd like to know if anyone has had similar experiences....and lived to tell about it.

Yes, it is a bit strange.

I think the hotel should be named!

I would like the name of the hotel, as well. Amritsar is a place I would still like to visit, and I would like to know which hotel to avoid.

This is very serious, and not a "prank" at all. I don't know what drug was used, but putting any drugs in a customer's food is completely wrong. A dose that is too large could also kill someone. The hotel should be named so others wanting to visit Amritsar will be able to choose a safe place to stay.

Please expose this hotel! This is a very serious matter. As the above posters said, someone could even die form such a prank. It seems they poisoned your food and also put in a strong sedative. This dangerous and criminal act should be reported to the police.

You were accidentally prank poisoned? Nice. Yes, please enlighten the IM community on the name of this dodgy flophouse.
