The 50 and 100 notes seem more similar, but of course there are two 500 notes.
thanks, the Rs. 100 note image is now my desktop image..

Those images are taken directly from RBI's website, which also marks them clearly as specimens. Therefore they are not legal tender and consequenlty no crime has been committed.

I seem to remember the sizes being different in India, with larger denominations being larger in size. that is helpful and intuitive. it reminds me of being a little kid, you know, the idea that the bigger money obviously must be worth more.

Most currencies in the world follow this idea or differentiation via colors. The USD being one of the very few exceptions.

Currency swap

Happened to us in Mexico City. From a bank's own ATM, no less
We got in early (6AM) and got money from the airport's many ATM. Got an old, out-of-circulation 50peso note instead of new 200peso note; it was all in the same stack and we didn't check right away until we tried to pay a taxi 5 hours later

Nothing we could do about it as the bank refused to acknowledge the "mistake" thinking we're just there to scam them! Oh well, a 150peso (US$15) lesson.

Sita"s Swap

At home, in Mexico, in India (my #1 travel spots)

Passing a big bill...look them in the eye...say the bill's denomination x 2, do not leave until proper change is provided.

Look stupid and don't move.

Good advice for many situations?

Seriously...

Gandhi is on all our notes!

Here -> More than you ever wanted to know about Indian currency
I didn't remember seeing Gandhi on all the currency until this last trip. Gandhi has just been on all the bills since the late 1990s. Before then, he was just on the 500 rupee note.

Yes... I think they call it the Ghandi Series or something.

My relationship with India only started in the late 1990s: just coming up to my tenth anniversary. So I am a youngster compared to many here.
