Could anyone be kind enough to provide a list of places in Rajestan where a tourist can buy the legal herb.......

Also any places for a good lassi (other than in Pushkar) would be greatfully recieved....

Bhang in Rajasthan

Hi!
I have heard that Pushkar is the place you can go for a Bhang lassi. I have also heard that the effect is much stronger than expected, so take it easy!

Matty Gee,

Lassi need not contain Bhang.

Not all lassi shops will give lassi with bhang in it.

I think it's getting rarer. Have only seen bhang shops in Pushkar and Jaisalmer. Wasn't actively looking though; older men in Jaisalmer were not very reserved about some more interesting goodies they were taking.

Indeed, don't confuse lassi (a nice refreshing drink) with bhang lassi (same with added spunk, often simply referred to as "special lassi", to the detriment of many an unsuspecting tourist). There's the legality of the situation to consider too, it may be legal in holy places but how that extends to westerners I don't know. Being followed around by a policeman for a bribe wouldn't seem unthinkable to me.

Ingesting the stuff as opposed to smoking it means you have less control over the dosage and the effects, which may occur hours later. Take it easy as noted.

Lassi is available just about everywhere.

Bhang - I have heard there are some licensed shops but couldn't tell you for sure.

They also sell bhang cookies in the government bhang shop in Jaisalmer.

I sat next to a girl who had them at the beginning of a 5 hour bus ride to Jodhpur. She freaked out - bad hallucinations and whatnot. I just had to keep telling her it would wear off (but who knows after how long). I had small bits and it didn't really work for me. Be careful with the amount...

theres one along the fort wall/entrance in jaisalmer. Then in udaipur its close to the temple(the jagdish temple?). if u r facing the temple then take the street that goes along its right side and the bhang lassi shop is on yr. right 50 metres or so.
if u r intertsted u could convince the guys to sell u some bhang and then u go ahead and make a cake or cookies too

Also Uttaranchal, u can get it legally from licensed shops in dehradun, haridwar , rishikesh and work...

The trip is intense... and looong... what ever the real tripper looks for...

Lassi is available in every place in Rajasthan. It's a very good yoghurt drink and available in many flavours.
The only place I know about where Lassi Bhang (with marihuana) is available and legal is Jaisalmer.
There is a restaurant in a former guardhouse in the fortwall called Little Italy. The owner, Prem, used to have the only government license in Jaisalmer to sell Bhang.
He lost his license for some reason but can still buy bhang for you.
He will find out first if you're used to the stuff or if it's your first time and depending on that you'll get light, medium or strong bhang lassi

Ugh..... Is that true ? I've never heard of it but it sounds pretty likely.

(Mind you, I've also heard all sorts of tales of kitchen staff adding unmentionable things to dishes in British kitchens before serving them, so perhaps its just a catering trade thing, not just an Indian thing.)

I wasn't referring to anything untowards going on, just to the results of ordering a special lassi not realizing what's so "special" about it.
