Question Where to stay during Pushkar Camel Fair?

Check with a number of agents and seems like the town is almost sold out according to them except for the following places. I need your opinion.

Pushkar Resort - tent only. Do you think I need to bring my own blanket/sleeping bag, or the hotel will ususally take care of that?

Gulaab Niwass Palace. The hotel's own web photos look very nice but I couldn't find any reviews online. Anybody out there knows about this place? How far is it from town? Am I able to walk to town?

Thanks.

You can usually buy a blanket if you need one (they are great souvenirs) though most hotels provide pillows, sheets and blankets.

I doubt that Pushkar is totally sold out; there are a lot of hotels there that do not advertise or have websites, and I've heard that it's always possible to find a room during the fair.

Prices do go up during the fair, so you can't always believe the prices given in the Lonely Planet Guide for this time period.

I changed places last year from near the main fair events to a hotel on the other side of town during the last 3 days of the fair. Where I had been staying the price goes up to around 5,000 NIR’s per night on the last 4 days. I had no problem finding a different nice place to stay for 800 NIR‘s, but it was a 20min walk across town to get to the main events, although I did catch a few motor bikes rides and one late night camel ride back to my room.

For a cheap clean budget hotel you could try Purple Garden Hotel - there are no washbasins in the bathrooms but you can cope! If you book now I am sure they would have a room. I have a phone no. if you want it - PM me and I will check the computer tomorrow (have to use cybercafe at the moment) and I will get their card with email address etc. They have simple rooms with attached baths. Clean and neat but not luxury.
They are within walking distance of everything, including camel fair.
