Udaipur's "Famous Polystyrene Monuments"...?

Suffering from a beastly cold right now, so I am cheering myself with learning more about Udaipur, which I'm visiting in November.

There are some good resources online, however one thing has me totally baffled. In the description of Bagore-Ki-Haveli, Udaipur World Guides makes reference to its "famous polystyrene monuments" - which seems unlikely but strangely intriguing.

Is this merely a bizarre typographical error, or are these famous polystyrene monuments an attraction that we should definitely not miss?

Haven't been there, but this does sound intriguing.

Here's some photos:

I would have expected they were marble just looking at them, but I guess they must be polystyrene!

thanks for those images, Vireya. I've never been there either - they look like marble in the photos don't they. If polystyrene, they are amazing - particularly the Taj and the Eiffel Tower!

They really ARE polystyrene!
What can I say, apart from "Only in India!"

Hope they're firmly pinned down, one sneeze and that leaning tower of Pisa would fall over.

Thanks so much for those photos Vireya, they really do look well done, and are definitely worth a visit.

Wait till you see the Crystal gallery in Udaipur. Photography is not allowed there. And the dim light conditions are maintained there.

There are not many pictures to be found on the net, and the pictures cannot do proper justice to it.

Here are couple of articles about it.

Sure, crystal sounds nice. But how can it compare with polystyrene?

Vireya! Even cutting polystyrene is an art in itself. I can't do it!

I missed seeing the crystal gallery due to paucity of time. But the vintage car collection did disappoint and the ticket was over-priced.

Aishah, if you ever need to do this, the easiest way to "cut" polystyrene is with a hot wire. It goes through it like a hot knife through butter.

i believe that you can even get 3-D 'printers' that use foam.
