Udaipur to Jodhpur
Hello,
I was wondering what the best way it is to get from Udaipur to Jodhpur? I hear that there are buses which takes roughly 7 hours. Is there a train from Udaipur to Jodhpur, or will it have to be a bus? Are there luxury buses? or just regular buses? thanks in advance. |

There is no direct train.
You have to travel to Falna/Ranakpur. Train 4708 departs Falna daily at 06:03 and gets to Jodhpur at 10:05 (2A, 3A, SL.) Train 9111 departs Falna daily at 16:58 and gets to Jodhpur at 20:05 (2A, SL.) See this thread: http://www.indiamike.com/india/showt...rts#post132315 |

Car?
I've been quoted 2450INR to do the trip with a driver, stopping at Ranakpur on the way.

Hi there,
Thanks for the info on hiring cars, but I'm doing this leg soon too and have been told there are definitely buses that do Udaipur to Jodhpur...although they seem to take anywhere from 6-12 hours...the RSRTC (http://www.rsrtc.org) has an express bus that leaves at 9.30 am and gets into Jodhpur at 5.30pm, for a bargain 146Rs... but I'm sure there are more comfotable private buses that do the route as well...at least I'm hoping so. Anyone have any info on private buses out of Udaipur?? |

May I ASK Where can I find the private bus from Udaipur to Jodhpur?
Actually I would like to go Jaisalmer from Udaipur. Is there any bus connecting the two spots? I know it's far, but I really don't have time transport in Jodhpur... Please help... |

I took the bus from Udaipur to Jodphur and it was a memorable trip. I bought the ticket through a travel agent so I have no idea if it was a private or government bus. It left in the early morning...around 7am and was a sleeper bus although I was assigned a seat. It took 6 hours with a stop at a tea shop on the way. People kept getting on and off, families boarded and sat up on the sleeper platforms, someone appeared with a boombox (at a nice sound level thankfully) and we rolled along with lively Indian music watching the country roll by. I have taken many trips around India and this was one of the best ones.

A quick glance at Udaipur would be a waste, although I think the place is overated, as a place to relax it's nice, but if you're not going to be there for at least 2 days, forget it. Jodhpur is underated, I love the city and I'm looking forward to going back again. Jaisalmer also needs time, an absolute minimum of 2 full days, though more is better. The journey from Udaipur to Jaisalmer will be awful, unless you can stop off somewhere along the way. |

Thanks! Steven~
I will spend 2~3 days in Udaipur, which is a place I long for, so I won't give Udaipur up. But I still got 3 days before I go back Dehli, is there any recommended place worth 3 days visiting? And easy traffic from Udaipur to Delhi? I'm thinking about Jodhpur, but not sure does it take 3 days? I read that it's enough to spend only one day in jodhpur from some tourist books.... |

I think you can ask in a hotel - We found tickets in a small phone office - have come in to make some calls and by the way asked the man about some buses from Udaipur to Jodhpur - and he told us he can give us tickets. As for me - I love Jodhpur and think 1 days is not enough for it. About 2-3 days is good (for the first time - I'd like to spend more next time) |

Hi...
I am planning on taking this same route myself later in the year and have planned to spend 2 to 3 days in each of Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer... Having read some of the posts here, it seems that the best way between Udaipur and Jodhpur is by bus or car... Is it better to organise a car and driver whilst I am there? From the hotel? How much is reasonable? This appears to be the only part of my travels I can't organise from home! Also, apart from what is written in the guidebooks, is there anything I shouldn't miss in or between these 3 places? Please help... |

Fly
You could possibly make a half day of it and fly in the morning. The afternoon can be spent visiting the fort. I looked at the transportation possibilities and decided that with the time I was given to do my Rajasthan circle tour, a quick hop from Udaipur to Jodhpur would make it all possible.
Next time I want to see what is between the two place. |
