Udaipur to Bundi via Chittorgarh

Hello all,

We would like to visit the fort in Chittorgarh on our way from Udaipur to Bundi. As far as I´ve read this is doable though pushed, but we don't mind pushin' it on this occasion. Regarding the details, I got some questions:

Would you recommend taking busses or should we take a train for at least one leg?
Is it possible to store luggage near the bus station in Chittorgarh?
Is their a bicycle rental near the bus station?

Thanks a lot in advance,

regards daweste

Hi, I've done this (the other way around). It's pushing it, yes, but manageable. Start the day early, and count on a good night's taking it easy at the end of it.

Hmm. I think doing it the other way around we did train first to Chittoor, then bus to U'pur. Whichever way works out best though, it doesn't matter all that greatly.

Yes, if this is still the case, this is how we did it (probably at the train station). There are bike rentals down town (it's small, anyway), you can't miss 'em. You need to push them up to the fort, steep climb, but they're great once you're up there, it's massive. I've described before how on the way down my brake pads flew off one by one, pretty hairy, but hey, I'm still typing

Have fun.

why don't you rent a car for the journey, that will give you more time to explore the fort in Chittorgarh which is well worth spending some hours.
As far as I know there are no trains between Bundi and Chittorgarh but there is a train running between Udaipur and Chittorgarh once a day. Buses are however faster!

It could be I got the bus & train mixed up yes.* Doing it our way, we arrived early afternoon'ish in Chittoor, leaving plenty of time for some hours of cycling around the fort before continuing, to arrive somewhere in the evening in Udaipur.

I know auto rickshaws ply up to, and inside, the fort, however I'm not at all sure if cars are allowed to do the same, can't remember seeing any.

* I think to use the railways "cloak room" (left luggage) you technically need to have an inbound or outbound train ticket. They may be willing to accommodate you as a tourist all the same though, or you could enquire at the bike rental or some restaurant or hotel that looks OK to you or so. Bus stations don't normally offer the service I think.

I'd go with hiring a car option - much less time taken getting from place to place. If you can afford it do this, and it is an easy day's trip taking in Chittaugarh on the way. If you are young and active, and on a tight budget, Machadinha's suggestions sound great and you won't be worn out by the getting from station to Chittaugarh Fort, back to bus station etc.!
If you have a car you could go onto lunch at Basi Fort en route to Bundi - a small rural village, quiet atmosphere and good food there.

Thanks a lot for your information, I think we will decide spontaneously, when in Udaipur.
