Transport from Jaisalmer to Barmer

Can anyone give an account of the transport system from Jaisalmer to Barmer? I found the distance to be 155 km. What are the type of transport available, at what time, and what is the cost?

There are regular government buses going to Barmer. They go fairly frequently during the day. This would be your cheapest way to go - the condition of them is variable. A car will be between 6 - 9 rupees per km depending on size required. You have to make this a return journey costing for the correct amount you will pay.

I was also thinking about this. Now, I am thinking about quitting the plan for Barmer as there is not much to see there.

Barmer is a smallish city/town and is known for its fabric block printing - bedsheets etc. If you were really interested I have heard some people going out to see this being done. The other 'notable' nearby site are some ancient Jain temples. For this you need permission (near the border) and it takes hours to get. Mr K and I did this and by the time we got it, drove there, we had 20mins. left to look at them. Sort of interesting... It maybe possible that Indian Nationals don't need this permission but I'm not sure.

If you want colour on a large scale, Kanchipuram (T.N.) silk mills during the day are worth a look in.

Cheers
