Suggestions required for a week long Rajasthan trip
Suggestions required for a week long Rajasthan trip
Fellow tourers and experts
I would need to visit Pilani in Rajasthan for some academic purposes in the month of March.
Since I would be traveling that far just for a day's work, I thought I would put in a week's leave from office and roam around Rajasthan.
Hence I would require some valuable suggestions and inputs on deciding my tour itinerary.
Before I come to the list of places I was thinking, I would have to be at BITS, Pilani campus on a weekday in the week of 15th March to 19th March.
So my first question would be, what would be the weather conditions in March during the day and night.
If it's too hot, what is the kind of baggage I would need to carry in order to beat that heat?
Not knowing anything about Rajasthan, I browsed some logs very quickly and found some places which people visit very often and have shortlisted the following places:
Mt. Abu
Jaipur
Jodhpur
Jaisalmer
Bikaner
Can I cover these places within the remaining 5-6 days?
I am planning to take a flight from Bangalore to either Delhi or Jaipur and the return journey would also be through the flight.
I would not be having any means of transport during the trip and the only thing which I need to rely on would be public transport.
Would I be able to make the journey comfortably in a bus?
Planning to make the trip as inexpensive as possible, would I be able to find budget hotels in the vicinity of the above listed places?
Any help on the planning would be highly appreciated.

Here are my 2 cents ... the places you have selected are all over Rajasthan.
I'd suggest selecting 2 places and exploring them well. No point spending the bulk of your time on the road.
Since you are in Pilanai, you might as well check out the Shekhawati region.
I'd suggest Shekhawati - Bikaner - Jaipur
Jodhpur and Jaisalmer are equally good - I am not suggesting that since these would involve a lot
of travel unless you are ok with flying into Jodhpur to save time.
Shekhawati Region is really nice ... you could easily spend 2+ days here and may be head out to Bikaner for a day. Then come down to Jaipur - shop a bit, see the sights and fly out.
Bikaner: Junagadh is really nice. Once easily spend 3-4 hours here esp if you get the audio guide.
The rest of the sights are ok-ok types ... see whatever you can after you are done with
Junagadh ... There are a couple of havelis (you would have had your fill of havelis in
Bikaner by then
) ... Karni Mata Temple (full of rats) is quite interesting ... It is
not for everyone - my wife refused to enter the temple. If I had just 1 day in Bikaner, I'd
just do Junagadh and Karni Mata.
