Safety and cost concerns re: hiring a driver Jodhpur-Udaipur
Ashamed to admit - I was eavesdropping on the subway this afternoon and I overhear these two ladies going on about how dangerous it is to hire a car in Rajasthan...
It seems to be common practice? Can anyone advise about safety of two females hiring a car from Jodhpur to Udaipur with a stop to Ranakpur and an approximate price? I understand that this is an 8 hour trip, best to leave at 8am in order to get to the Jain Temples at 12pm. Many Thanks in advance, 4 days until I go from -30 to +35! |

Can't speak to your route, by way of safety ... but I just did 9 days around Delhi/Agra/Jaipur/Delhi by car. We were two American women and felt relatively safe at all times. There were the harrowing "near misses" you hear EVERYONE talk about. But, in another vein, our driver was VERY protective over us. He kept a very close eye on us and we had a great experience.

The roads are TERRIBLE and we had a few near misses too - but I think that was the only danger, our drivers were great - except for one taxi driver but after I shouted at him to stop texting and watch the road he was OK - if a little sullen!

Jodhpur-Udaipur ,Hectic traffic, half a you are on national highway and second half they are building 4 lane road. very safe otherwise, Mt.Abu is not safe, Isrel tourist got killed few months back and a french couple got robbed 2 weeks ago ,the tribals come out of forests and robbs people. On holi the route to UDaipur from Jodhpur gets more mad. The tribals c0me on the high way and asks for bakshish, dont let your driver stop the car. air con car to Udaipur from Jodhpur via ranakpur and kumbalgarh-3000 and a non air con car would cost 2400rps , this includes drivers over night in ranakpur if you plan to break the journey and parking toll charges.

we did this trip in the other direction last year, desert rose's prices are spot on. Have to admit, i didn't find the road bad - in fact my other half had a bad stomach that day and i don't recall any bumps that made him worse!
I thought it was a really nice drive |
