Romantic dinner in Udaipur

what's the nicest place for a romantic evening dinner in Udaipur?

I don't want a 5-star ambience (like the Lake Palace) - at the same time I'd want a place with some peace n quiet...

Had a couple of pleasant & not too expensive meals overlooking the lake in Udaipur (even had fireworks over the Lake Palace Hotel reflected in the water as it was wedding season). One was at "Ambrai": a very popular busy place right on the water's edge across the lake on the other side to our hotel (it's listed in the LP). A gorgeous ambience, lamps in the trees & musicians playing, busy but not too noisy.

I'd also recommend the open air terrace restaurant overlooking the lake, at the hotel on Lalghat where I stayed - Jaiwana Haveli (formerly Caravanserai). Good food, quieter than Ambrai, with spectacular views over the lake, the Lake Palace Hotel, the palace that's sometimes illuminated in a golden light, the sunset, & the entertainment at dusk of watching the rooftop monkeys racing for the nearby trees. They even had tonic for our gin!!

I'm sure there's other gorgeous & romantic restaurants others will tell you about eg Jagat Niwas has a beautiful restaurant, with alcoved windows onto the lake, but it hasn't got as good a view & isn't as open-air as Jaiwana's.

Hope you enjoy the romantic dinner, wherever you choose. Let us know where you went & how it was.

The Lake Palace itself is quite amazing if they have dinners in the outer premises and even otherwise. Make a boat reservation..

The rooftop restaurant of hotel Udai Kothi on Hanuman Ghat also deserves your attention - quiet Indian music (live), good service and fantastic food, not to mention the view ... and prices are ok. You can even take a night swimm as the swimming pool is at the back of the roof he he he

Beside a window in Jagat Niwas Hotel. Nice place with lake views and good food at reasonable prices.
