Riots in Rajasthan

I just spoke to a very dear friend of mine who lives in Jaipur. She mentioned that right now there are terrible riots taking place on the roads between Agra and Jaipur and Delhi and Jaipur- local tribes fighting for power. The roads have been closed, people hurt and yet I have heard and read nothing about it. I went to www.rediff.com and not a single word. I know Rajastan depends very much on the tourist trade and seems to have a very good 'damage control'PR engine - but I wanted to know if anyone is in Rajastan right now and can give an update. It may be exaggerated, it might be untrue, but I trust my friend and think she is being straight. Is anyone able to update us?

Newspapers from India also have news re these events - check out www.indiatimes.com for The Times of India, or Hindustan Times. There have been some train disruption over the last few days but seem to be settling back to normal now. Also bear in mind these riots and gatherings are in localized areas, not all over Rajasthan.

An alternate (and I believe more truthful, the national mainstream media having become collaborative with the elite and suspect- in most things) view of the agitation

Quote:
The leadership of the agitators has clearly learnt lessons from last year, and has changed its tactics even as it seems to reflect and repeat the same angst. The inertia of the State, however, gives the impression that all the lessons it learnt were those taught in colonial police field manuals in the early part of the 20th century. That is also not the case this year, for there is a new weapon being deployed, a new thought. It is another thing altogether that this new weapon can only operate in the way it is told by civil authorities trained in colonial tactics.

Also, the main man behind the agitation

Quote:
WITH THE same dogged resistance to harsh elements and hostile fire that once held him to his post in Kashmir, Colonel Kirori Singh Bainsla, 69, stands guard over 12 dead bodies and a thin stretch of railway track in Rajasthan. The track runs on a raised embankment, from Bayana into the dusty middle of nowhere; this is where a few
thousand Gujjars have followed Bainsla, settled onto the hard-baked earth, and laid their lathis across their knees to wait until he announces victory. In the field of poor farmers and labourers, Col Bainsla is a sole, concentrated point of leadership, and as he moves from point to point, a huddle of dusty white turbans follows him like a spotlight.

Riots are on the Mega Highways and Some towns around Bharatpur-Agra road , No Casualties to Foreigners have been heard, Flying in and out of the cities around Jaipur and Agra is the best option.
