Ranthambhore NP Worth the trip?

My husband and I are going to India
(Rajasthan/Kerela) in March for 2 weeks. We both love the out doors/nature/trekking ect...So we were thinking of spending 2 nights in Ranthambhore. I know we will just in a jeep but from pictures it looks like a beautiful break from cities.

I was speaking to a travel agent who basically told me that there isn't much nature left to see here and that it wouldn't be a wise use of two nights.

Has anyone been here recently? Do you agree?

If we should scrap it any advise on trekking/"nature" activities that can't be missed?

Thanks!

We spent three nights there last November. We saw a tiger, leopards, deer, crocodile plus numerous birds. For us personally seeing a tiger up close made it worthwhile. We actually enjoyed the two nights we spent at the Leopards Lair Resort in Bera in Rajasthan more, but that's a different scale of experience.

There are many hotels and resorts in the Ranthambhore area - choose carefully.

Kerala also has Periyar Sanctuary, you may think of that too.

Ranthambore is a charming place...worth visiting.

I was there last December. As with most things -- 'it depends'.

If you can get to see a Tiger -- you might enjoy it seeing in a natural setting. Note that the area they cover is relatively short. You will see lot of deer, peacocks etc though.

As for trekking -- there could be a possibility. There is also a fort there (on the hill, very very poorly maintained). It is possible for you to trek the fort (I don't mean whatever is left of palaces, but the actual boundary walls of the fort). I am not sure if this is done..but you can check on this.

As for 'nature' -- except for the RNP area, rest of it is not worth it.

Enjoy.

I went to the fort too (there is temple, dargah?, some dilapidated buildings etc). But did you do the perimeter of the fort boundary? I hear it is 7km or so

Thanks for the reply and the update! Most of the RNP discussions are of people on their way there or recaps from trips a few years old.

York: Thanks for the suggestion, I will have to research that one

Deliala: Thanks for letting me know it can be doen. Did you enjoy it?

Someone recommended the nature area around Ranakpur is pretty good for walks and wildlife...no tigers...but it's meant to be very pretty.

We visited the ruined fort mainly for the Temple, Didn't do a perimeter walk.... but the views of the sanctuary from the ramparts are excellent....

Hi All

In Ranthambore,On route no.3, definitely you can spot a tiger or Tigress named as "Mamta", but dont use camera flash on her.
