Ranakpur as a day or overnight trip
Ranakpur as a day or overnight trip
We will be staying in Udaipur then traveling on to Jodhpur in November. We want to visit Ranakpur, and are aware that this can be done as a Day tour out of Udaipur, but would like to break up the trip to Jodhpur. Would it be easy to arrange transport from Ranakpur to Jodhpur? Could a car and driver be hired there, or would it be a bus/train trip? Thanks

Disclaimer first, Not an expert, just did a recent trip (yesterday) to Ranakpur + Kumbhalgarh. So first and foremost the question, what all you intend to cover in your trip to Ranakpur. If only interested in the Ranakpur Jain Temple then no need for an overnighter, you can take a halt in between your trip to Jodhpur and cover the place in same day.
However if you intend to cover other numerous temples in the area and also Kumbhalgarh Fort, then you will either need to make this trip as a one day outing from Udaipur itself or make an overnight halt at Kumbhalgarh/Ranakpur and then carry onto Jodhpur.
There is no railhead connectivity to Ranakpur, so you will have to depend only on road travel. As far as I can tell there are no regular AC/Luxury buses from Ranakpur to Jodhpur. So Better continue your drive taken from Udaipur till Jodhpur.
Experienced IMers with more knowledge about the area can chip in

Schaan
while moving towards Jodhpur from Udaipur, Ranakpur is on the way..

I think the best option would be to hire a car from Udaipur to Jodhpur and staying for a night at Ranakpur, if you want to stay overnight.
Kedar Janani Devasthan, Mt Abu - Udaipur, Bharatpur, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha, Jhansi

wrote a long post and my connection dropped.
Car costs have gone up and will be Rs 7/- per km and upwards for a basic car. Distance to be calculated between Jodhpur and Udaipur and return plus the detour to Kumbhalgarh (if you go there). Add Rs 200/- for drivers overnight charges plus any applicable toll and parking.
Stay options in Ranakpur - Maharani bagh orchard retreat (ITC property), Village Rajpura homestay (no personal experience, please google), Jain dharamshala (doubt if they'd allow you but the best bet to take evening shots and morning shots as your're walking distance from the temple compound). Kumbhalgarh has a club mahindra as well.

you can also stay at Aodhi in Kumbhalgarh - but price will be on a higher side
Thanks to all. I think that the Maharani Bagh will fit best into our itinerary. V.A., if my mileage figures are accurate it should cost about 7000INR for a car and driver to Jodhpur with an overnight in Ranakpur.
FYI, the Ranakpur temple is open to visitors only from noon to 5:00 pm. They do allow cameras inside. Make sure you have plenty of batteries. The place is exquisitely beautiful.
I would prefer staying in kumbhalgarh jains are allowed into the temple only between 12-5PM, so it doesnt makes sense going to kumbhalgarh after visiting the temple.
as Geoinmt said in first post that he wants to drive from Udaipur to Jodhpur so he could drive to Kumbhalgah then continue to Ranakpur. After lunch at any of the restaurant at Ranakpur he can drive to Jodhpur or can stay for a night in Ranakpur
