Rajasthan Road Trip

Does this itinerary make sense. Any feedback is welcome. We are bunch of guys (All 30+) got approvals from our significant others for four days of mancation (Man + Vacation ). The plan is to fly into Delhi rent an SUV (probably a Honda CRV) and keep driving like crazy. The emphasis is the road trip itself and not too much of sight seeing. Let me know if this plan works.

24th January
• Hyd --> Delhi Air Deccan 5:50am --> 7:50am
• Delhi --> Jaipur 9:00am --> 1pm (265 km)
• Sight-seeing/Sleep in Jaipur

25th January
• Jaipur  Bikaner 9:00am --> 3:00pm (321 km)
• Sight Seeing/Sleep in Bikaner

26th January
• Bikaner  Jaisalmer 9:00am --> 3:00pm (333 km)
• Sight Seeing/Sleep in Jaisalmer

27th Juanuary
• Jaisalmer --> Delhi 9:00am --> 10:00pm (800 km)
• Sleep in Delhi

28th January
• Delhi --> Hyd SpiceJet 8:00am --> 10:20am
• Back to work

The itinerary definitely satisfies your intention of driving like crazy.

Easily doable, though if your main aim is road trip and not much of sight seeing than Himalayas would be more apt. Since driving in Rajasthan isn't that much fun and for most parts can get a bit boring.

Thanx Guys,

Looking forward to a vacation without Wives and Kids Its been ages since we have done that. One of the guys in the group works in Seagrams and has promised us a crate of Fuel and 100Pipers. (Any booze is good for us as long as it is free) So we are all excited about the road trip.

Yogesh, Is there a specific itinerary you can suggest for Himalayas. We are constrained on the number of days to 4 from the Wife and Kid department. Other than that we are pretty much open to any location doable in 4 days.

We had undertaken a self driven holiday in Rajasthan two years back. Our holiday was for a fortnight and did include sight seeing. Our trip was Mumbai-Udaipur-Pushkar-Bikaner-Jaisalmer-Jodhpur-Mount Abu-Mumbai
Some of the roads are absolutely splendid for driving. We drove from Bikaner to Jaisalmer about 333 kms in 4 hours. Though in the initial fews kms the road was bad, but later it was simply marvellous. The road is straight for Kms, the traffic minimal and surrounding desert picturesque.
As you want to drive like crazy I think the Delhi- Manali road trip suggested would be cumbersome as while getting out of Delhi towards Chandigarh the Haryana highways are pretty heavy on traffic and most of the road till beginning of the ghat to Manali is single laned. We had driven there last year and the road from Kullu to Manali was in very bad condition, I dont know whether it has improved this year.

I have been planning some thing like this for a while now, it should be fun http://www.marutisuzuki.com/ut/desti...ch=5&ct=7&sc=5 and in case roads are blocked near Narkanda you can always come back via Chakrata route or instead of doing this you can go deeper into Uttaranchal.

If you need some thing which involves more driving then you can head to Munsyari, it ought to be fun at this time of year.

Adunut - Jaisalmer to Delhi in one day?? I think that would be suicidal - you are going to be so tired at night and you won't be even near there. Crazy is what I would say. You should break that journey down and not be a risk to others on the road.
Oh - I've just taken in that you are having a lot of Seagrams as well - well that should be a good combination shouldn't it? I think your post is a troll? Am I right??

Yogesh,

The bcmtouring site is fantastic and your pix from Munshiyari, Kumaon are really drool worthy. Couldn't convice the gang to do a Mountain road trip though (Bunch of wimps, cannot handle the cold)

So plan has slightly changed. Get of Delhi on 23rd evening head of to Manav Resorts around 100Km from Jodhpur as the base http://www.nivalink.com/manvar/camp.html and plan either a Jaisalmer or a Bikaner trip.

Aishah,

We have moderated the drive like crazy plan overall, Our Seagrams plans were restricted to the non-driving hours

Oh, I'm so relieved to hear that, Adunut, so apologies for suggesting this was a 'troll'!!
You will love Manvar - this is one of my favourite stop-offs on the way between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur and I'm always recommending it as a half-way stop. I think their desert camp, in such an isolated location, and well serviced and maintained, would have to be one of the best of all these tented accommodations. It is expensive but definitely worth it.

Thanks Adunut, but I haven't visited Munshiyari personally yet. My friends went there, however I am planning to visit that place next year.

The camp looks good, don't forget to do some desert offroading
