I would take the overnight train from Delhi to Jodhpur, keep my stuff at the cloak room at Jodhpur staion, tour the city whole day and then take the overnight train to Jaisalmer. Spend two days in Jaisalmer and take the overnight train to Delhi.

Two consecutive nights on a train, without being able to shower or sleep properly, is a bit hard on the system.
Otherwise, I'd agree with the suggestion that you should be taking trains rather than driving - unless there's something you particularly want to see between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer that you didn't mention? |

Thanks
Khambhagani!
Thanks for your answers. Doyou guys by any chance know if non-Inidans have to pay higher fares on Indian Airlines flights? Those seem to be the cheapest flights to Jodhpur from Delhi, but show a higer price in Euro. Thanks in advance. |

Message for Aishah and Desertrose
Hi Guys,
I am currently planning a trip from Delhi to Jaisalmer via Jodhpur and have a few questions. Since you two seem to be the experts for these areas... would really love it if we could chat. Please bear in mind that first, the purpose of a forum is public exchange of information.
As you've noticed, both these members freely give a lot of time to the site and to answering questions. Is it fair to ask them to extend this to spending time personally answering your questions? You, and they, are free people --- just my thoughts. You are also free to attract vast amounts of spam to your email address by publishing it on a busy site, but we advise against it

It would be better to post questons here
That way others with the same questions can just read the reply. The Delhi-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer journey is very popular and it is an imposition for them to answer the same questions every time.

Sorry
I am extremely sorry to have violated the rules of the forum. I will post my questions directly on the forum... I just thought posting private questions my not be appropriate.
No hard feelings... |

Namoli - have just read your postings - I really don't have time as Nick has said to be chatting online, on top of which my connection is very unreliable (GPRS Mobile). Looking at your itinerary, if you are hiring a car I rather liked your first suggestion. You will see some of the Shekawati region which is very different from other places - you are going through some interesting areas from there to Nagaur, then plenty of time to explore Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. Whether it would be cheaper to leave your car at Jaisalmer and then take train to Jodhpur, and flight to Delhi I'm not sure. I think the costing of the car would be based on a full round trip - however, the driver would be leaving earlier and that might make it a little cheaper.

Detailed Itinerary
1st Day: Arrive in Jodhpur at 2pm - visit Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada and a little suggestion ,Just before you enter into the fort on the left there is a old Cenotaph ,to get to this there are two steps in the wall, this way will also lead you for a short walk , which will lead beside, next to the fort , this way you are below the fort and above the city, walk to the roof of Jwala mata temple at Panchotiya hill for a wonderfull sunset, sun sets behind the brahmpuri or the blue city, see the city changing its color ,on the way back walk down from the temple to the city police from here clock tower(Sardar Market)is on 15 minutes walk, through the colorfull bazaras of shoes, tobacco, perfumes, lackh bangels etc.[Accomodation – Pal Haveli]Make sure of your reservation at this place. Don’t forget to try the Lassi from Mishri lal Makhaniya lassi and Samosa’s from Sahi Samosa. 2nd Day: Jodhpur Sightseeing – visit Guda Bishnoi , do not forget to have lunch with the local family, this evening go to Mandore Garden, [Accomodation – Pal Haveli] For guda Bishnoi try to find a local tour operator because this way you will get to go into details, usually delhi drivers don’t take you to the right place when they take you on this trip, you will be taken to some community jobs where they sell block printed materials, rugs, pottery etc, bargain upto 40%, the best thing is after demonstrating they will not force shopping. This trip Should not cost more then 550rps(Khejerli village-Guda Bishnoi-Chota Guda-Kakani-Salawas-Jodhpur.This is the actual trip for the Safari Bishnoi village) 3rd Day: Jodhpur to Pokaran (260 kms) – Enroute Visit Osiyan ,Ramdevra and then to Pokharan town [Accomodation – Pokaran Fort] Try Mirvana Nature resort as accommodation in Sodakore village 55km from Pokran on the way to Jaislmer and 50km from jaislmer. I love this place and it is very quite and tranquil . 4th Day: Pokharan to Jaisalmer (100 kms) - Jaisalmer Fort,Old havelies- Nathmalji ki Haveli, Patwon ki Haveli, Salim Singh ki Haveli, Jain Temple ,Tazia Tower, [Accomodation – Killa Bhawan] 5th Day: Jaisalmer sight-seeing -, Rama Kunda Temple,Bada Bagh ,Ludharwa,Kuldhara ,Kabha,Amar Sagar,Mool Sagar water reservoirs, don’t forget to carry some picnivc sort of lunch.[Accomodation – Killa Bhawan] 6th Day: Jaisalmer– visit Khuri or Sam sand dunes followed by late afternoon camel safari, then sunset dinner in desert, back to hotel by jeep [Accomodation – Killa Bhawan] 7th Day: Jaisalmer to Khimsar (360 kms) - via Kheechan to view Migratory Birds, continue to Khimsar; [Accomodation – Khimsar Dunes Village or Khimsar Fort] 8th Day: : Khimsar to Mandawa (250 kms) - Early morning Blackbuck Jeep Safari, then Nagaur Fort, continue to Mandawa; [Accomodation – Castle Mandawa or Desert Resort Mandawa] Staff from Reception and room boys at Castel Mandawa very cold and unfriendly. 9th Day –Mandawa-Nawalgarh-Jaipur(167km) In Mandawa visit Mahavir Prasad Goenka ki Haveli, Geori Shankar Haveli,Nandlal Devra ki Haveli, Post cards boys selling on the street are very expencive, the “pashmina Shawls” Very cheap here but the worst quality. leave for Jaipur via Nawalgarh , here do not forget to visit the Podar haveli and museum, 30rps is commission for the touts on the tourist ticket to bring you to this place, try to reach on your own and get the discount. 10th Day: Jaipur to Delhi (259km) Visit Amer fort ,elephant ride ,Jantar Mantar, city palace, hawa mahal(wind Palace)and dpeart for Delhi Take Care and all the best, Happy travels. |
