Rajasthan In May - June
Hi forum,
I was in Goa, Kerala and Tamil Nadu last October - loved it and all things India. We're going back in May - June, and would like to see Rajasthan - but I'm reading that it's HOT - ie: 45'. Is it 'too' hot for a Brit to enjoy the sights? If it was too hot, would it be better to head north or south (from Delhi) to get away from the heat? Thanks. |

Its probably wise to avoid India in June-July-August. I was in Jaipur (Rajasthan) in May and in August of the same year and it was extremely HOT. I am from Canada but have lived in tropical climate before but really found Jaipur to be very hot in those months.
Hope that helps.

Yes, very some people travel from western countries during this time of year to Rajasthan. During day time it is really hot.
But night's and early morning time specially in the desert are so pleasant. You can choose to visit mountain ( Indian Himalaya)area. |

In May/June, I would head north from Delhi... Uttaranchal or Himachal. But keep in mind that this is peak season in India for these areas, and would advise bookings in advance.

Gave up Rajhastan
Hi, right now I`m in Goa and had plans to go up to Rajasthan but changed my mind due to the heat and instead I'm going to Kerala. I might, later, fly to Jaipur and have a quick look around. It will be more expensive but I don't think I could put up with the heat over there. Mumbai was 35 degrees and it was already too much! And I'm brazilian!! I think a good destination would be Nepal, our last stop.

Dear Friend,
I am in jaipur and being a north Indian who has stayed in hot places I woudl suggest stay away from rajasthan this summer as it is killing. How about exploring the Himachal or Leh ladakh or combine both? the very thought makes me want to go there RIGHT NOW.. think over your travel plans and then move ahead njoy |

It got to 45 in Ganganagar, northern Rajasthan on Sunday, it looks like records will be broken this year.
The worst I've experienced was about 40, and that was not nice at all. |

I will leave Jaisalmer on May 12 - fast may it come!! It is hideous now - the only really cool time is around 5 a.m. You have 3-4 hours before the sun intensifies and by 11 a.m. it is horrible out in the streets. I am now into gaol mode as I call it - in the room with the a/c on from 12-ish to 6.30p.m. when i turn it off, and go out to water the struggling garden. I water myself at the same time and with a breeze I get a personal a/c effect which tides me over until I come back inside where I still have to put the a/c back on again. Sometimes we go out to dinner in an a/c restaurant and use somebody else's a/c and give ours a rest for a while. Then back home and the a/c on for sleeping until around 3 a.m. or when I wake up and open everything up to let in whatever minutely cool breeze is around at the time. I think you can get the picture....! Go to the mountains, they are heaven now!!
By the way, I think you will find all over Rajasthan the water in the cold taps will be coming out near boiling! You can't have a shower to cool down... Best time is early morning! |
