Rajasthan in August

Hi guys,

Going to be touring Rajasthan in August, just wondering if its recommended to prebook trains and guest houses? Would prefer to book as we go but dont want to be stuck without a transport option. Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Shep

Trains are always better to book at least 2 weeks in advance if you are wanting 1st or 2A class as there are fewer berths here and they are booked out quicker. Failing trains if you end up not having booked in advance and can't get a ticket, then there is always buses, which don't need advance booking generally or just the day ahead. However, trains are more comfortable. August is the time many UK and European tourists are coming to Rajasthan, and trains can become booked out.

Hi all, thanks for the advice. The problem with booking trains is your then stuck to a rigid plan and we dont know how long we need in each place. I guess buses might be our best option.

We will be coming into Rajasthan from Agra and would like to visit as a minimum:

Jaipur
Bundi
Jodphur
Jaisalmer
Udaipur

We've heard Khimsar is nice, is it worth a visit to break up a journey? Anywhere else we 'shouldnt miss'?

Can anyone recommend the most time effective way (i.e. shortest journey times) to travel round these places?
