Rajasthan: Current costs to hire driver?

I am looking to hire a car with driver for 2 legs of my trip. Can someone tell me what the going rate will be for the 2 following trips? Or at least a generic (though current) rate for hiring a car & driver (like rate for kilometers, extra charges, etc.)? (I know you have to pay for roundtrips.) i want a car with A/C!

1. Udaipur --> Jodhpur (stopping at Ranakpur and Kumbalargh along the way; once arriving in Jodhpur, driver is free to leave)

2. Pushkar --> Bundi --> Ajmer (spending 2 nights in Bundi)

Thanks!

(by the way, http://www.liveindia.com/distance/index.html has been helpful for getting distance info) http://www.liveindia.com/distance/index.html )

slpparish - you will need to calculate the return journey each time because that is what you pay for. The cost is based on per kilometre depending on which vehicle you hire. The cheapest will be a Tata Indica and this will cost with A/C around 5.50p - 6.00rupees per kilometre. A larger vehicle like Innova is 7 -8 rupees per kilometre. So work out the kiloms. for round trip then multiply by car rate. As well as this there may be a 100 rupees per day for driver's food money. That should give you some idea. If your driver is exceptionally good, you should also give him a 'gift' at the end of the trip.

thanks for the information. i really appreciate this forum and how much it has helped me to plan my trip.

a couple of other questions:
- what is the best way to organize a driver in those 2 places (Udaipur and Pushkar)?
- is the difference between the two types of car purely size? or is one substantially more comfortable? (we will be only 2 people, so size is not really a priority but comfort could be.)

Car and drivers are usually hired by the day, not by kms. Count on about 1700Rs per day for an a/c newer Ambassador which is the least expensive and probably the most roomy and comfortable ride on Indian roads. I would never hire an Indica. Too small and flimsy for Indian roads.

Scando - for the day applies (at least out our way) when you are doing quite a no. of days. OP's No. 1 is a single journey which would be calculated by kilometre. I doubt she would get that trip for 1700 rupees. Maybe, it's slightly shorter than from here to Jodhpur which is costing 2,400 by Tata Indica...
She might get her No 2. trip by per day.

Sorry Scandojazzbuff car & driver is not hired by the day. As Aishah saheeba said you pay by kms, you have to pay for 200kms a day even if you do less. The driver gets Rs.100 for every night plus you pay toll taxes etc.
Cabs are easily found at all the tourist places, your hotel will certainly arrange one for you but that might cost you more. So check out the rates and above all the condition of the car. Make sure that the driver understands and speaks simple English. One of my friends went to Rajasthan hiring a cab and the driver could speak only in Hindi. At the end of their trip they were on the verge of mental break down !!!

Cars and drivers are available for a variety of different packages. One may book a car for a day, for instance, and do only a very low local mileage: it will still cost more than doing the same mileage in an hour. Typically, a day or half-day package will include up to a specified number of km, with a charge per km .

The last time I booked a car to take a couple of visitors around, we did such a small mileage over the day that, on coming home, my wife negotiated a lower price! But we were regulars at that time.
