Smile Railway Hotel, Jaisalmer

Hi everyone,

I am planning a trip to Rajasthan this november.
Wanted some advice:
1. Is the desert safari worth going for? Is the night in the desert comfortable? Can it be scary?
2. Can you suggest a good hotel on Jaisalmer. I have heard that the railway hotel in Jaisalmer is good.
Has anybody heard of the Railway Hotel in Jaisalmer?
I need their contact information.

Priti

A safari is an interesting experience - at times maybe not so comfortable depending whether you like riding a camel or sleeping out on sand dunes - some safaris will use charpoys and tents so this is like a camping experience. it is also dependent on the weather - bad luck can mean sandstorms, or rain but this is not so often. Totally unpredictable. The night in the desert can be made comfortable with proper bedding etc. You need to book with reliable people, and ensure your bedding is clean. It is not scary - perfectly safe. You could join a group of people going out on the night you want to go if you want company. Keep in mind however that Divali dates are 9 & 10 November, and the desert will be packed with Indian holidaymakers having a great time out there, noisy with fireworks!
I have not heard of a railway hotel. There is no accommodation at the railway station where you would want to stay. Why not check out the listings for hotels on this Forum?
