Quad biking in Jaisalmer

Hi,

I'm currently in Jaisalmer after consulting you guys and so far, loving it! Its so beautiful!

We're doing the camel track tomorrow and i was wondering if you guys knew of any companies that did quad bike tours here.

I read somewhere that this was quite popular here in the dunes but the hotel nor the driver have any idea what quad biking is - so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If "quad biking" is what I think it is--I'm not sure I know that term--I believe it means "fun" machines tearing up whatever they go over, basically destroying the dunes, not to mention adding more pollution fumes to the already polluted Indian air. Though in Jaisalmer the air isn't too bad--yet.

I suggest getting with the lovely, peaceful, clean air of the desert and just relax with the swaying of the camel

Make sure your camel driver puts lots of big thick quilts between you and the camel, it makes it comfortable enough to take a snooze.

Er, it's just basically a motorbike with four wheels, guys. There are jeeps plying the route there, right?

Just reading this post today - never heard of quad biking and never hope to hear of it in these quiet, peaceful areas! I have never seen a quad bike anywhere - only a converted scooter with 2 side wheels for elderly people who can't balance their vehicles on the road.
Jeeps are going only in designated areas - there are people living in villages who do not want to be disturbed by disruptive tourists. These jeeps keep to tracks and roads, they do not wander all over the sand dunes.

This has me thinking of a really funny thing that happened one day, but it's a real 'you had to be there' moment.

I used to work for London Underground, I worked in a control room keeping an eye on all that happened on the station and communicating with staff, other stations and train managers, London Underground is forever fighting the battle between political correctness and safety, in their wisdom they decided to ban any type of motorised wheelchair on the grounds of safety, as usual, a nice easy rule change for those at the top, but a nightmare for those staff on the front line.

So, on the first day of the new rules a woman in a small wheelchair enters the station (the type with just an ordinary battery and a small joystick, the most basic motorised wheelchair on the market), the woman wants to use the underground to get home, our gate line staff inform her that she is no longer allowed to use a motorised wheelchair, the woman just ignored the staff and proceeded to the lift, in the meanwhile I received the usual call from another station informing us that a regular motorised wheelchair user had boarded train XXXX and would be at our station in 6 minutes.

This regular customer had a 'top of the range' motorised wheelchair, these things are almost capable of 0-60 in 5 seconds and their users are known to doing hand-brake turns and wheelies to get into lifts before the doors close. (ok, slight exaggeration, but these motorised wheelchairs are big and powerful)

This regular always got on and off the train at the same set of doors, and you've guessed it, the doors next to the lift, I realised this and tried to warn the platform staff, but they were getting into an argument with the woman and she was refusing to leave the platform....too late, the train rolled in and the woman had to back up quickly to allow this monster of a wheelchair off the train, we lost the argument and let the woman travel.

I couldn't stop laughing at the time, the video was hilarious, the look on the platform staff's faces.
