Pushkar Packing In November

Hi All

Hoping you can help! I will be travelling to Pushkar during the Fair in November this year and wondered just how cold it actually gets at night. I will be taking a horse safari there and will have a fleecy but wondering whether I would need anything more serious?
Thanks!

Nights will be cool but not freezing at that time of the year. Polar fleece jacket (lightweight) should be more than enough. Also if you are doing a safari your operator should supply good quilts to keep you warm.

Unless there is a late start to winter weather, November could be VERY cold early morning and evening/night. I would bring another layer for over the fleece. A windbreaker type of thing. I was at the Pushkar mela 2 years ago when it was the end of Oct. and it was unseasonably hot--even in Delhi. Everyone commented on it.

Bring layers. You'll be putting them on and taking them off as the day wears on!

It would not be very much cold. Travelling Pushkar in winters is really having pretty experience. Here u will find the colours of Rajsthan, camels, good n friendly people.Better u book ur hotel early so that u will not face hotel crises during ur trip to Pushkar.
I am from Ajmer, very clsoe to pushkar.

Hiya...
We discussed the Pushkar Camel Fair at the last Delhi Meet-up this past Sunday... And quite a few members are thinking about it...
What are the dates of the fair...? And what could be possible options for budget accommodation...?
Aishah - Hi... You could answer that...
Cheers...!

My experience 2 years ago was that it is nearly impossible to get accommodations without an advanced reservation during the Pushkar fair. And the prices go through the roof. A normal budget place could be 10 times higher just for that week.

If you don't mind not being able to find somewhere to stay, you might try to just go for a day. Even the taxi from Pushkar out to the fair will be a rip off. They have one week to make as much money as they can & they really go crazy!

Also, if you are very flexible, you could just try to find a place when you get there. People have said here on IM that they were able to find a budget place, but if you are coming from another country, like we did, we had to book months in advance & got totally ripped off, but it was still worth it as I AM CAMELGIRL & I LOVED IT!

Hi Solo! The camel fair dates are on the week before the Full Moon which is November 13th - events start on November 10th.
As for cheap accommodation, I believe even the cheapest places raise their prices enormously for this time. I've mentioned this place before, it's a real budget place, has no washbasins in the bathrooms but it's clean and handy to walking everywhere. You could try them - their rooms are worth no more than 300 rupees maximum, but what they will be in Fair time I don't know:
Purple Garden Hotel - Tele: 0145 2772920.
It's definitely a 'budget' place - my friends wouldn't stay there, (Feb. last year) they wanted more upmarket, but I stayed while they went and paid more elsewhere. I found it okay.

<cross-posted with Camelgirl> - if it's so astronomically expensive, I wonder if Ajmer would be better, and get the bus into Pushkar?

Hiya...

Thanks Aishah / Camelgirl...
I knew u were online Aishah; so thought u'd answer it and took the liberty of requesting u for details... Hope u've been fine...
Like u mentioned, is staying at Ajmer an option one should even think of...? But lemme assure you, ripping off is not limited to the foreign tourists - they do it to the indian tourists too...!

Do you feel better now...???

Cheers...!!!

Ajmer is only an hour or so away by bus, so if you can find a good and inexpensive place there, you might want to try it.

I went to bed after I posted you Solo - yes, I'm fine. I know the prices refer to all! It's terrible really how they take such advantage - I can understand a small increase but whopping ones, not on in my book. I call that exploitation. Friends of mine once stayed in the dharamsala belonging to their caste there - I believe there may be quite a few places like this there as well, and that's one way to avoid the hotels' expenses.
