Kayte,

Book as much in advance as you can. The price you have mentioned is among the lowest for the season!
For best prices I would suggest the RTDC network as this is a Government organisation and operates at pretty reasonable rates.

Good luck

The RTDC (Rajasthan Tourism Development Corpn) rates are under US$ 10 per night for a dorm and somewhere between 10 and 20 $ for a room with a common bath.
A room at the Sarovar Tourist Bungalow (about 5 km from the fair grounds) with an attached bath would be $ 60 a night for 16th, 17th and 18th Nov and $ 30 for the 14th and 15th.
Book as early as you can... they don't have too many rooms.

If you can't make this booking from Down Under, mail me and I'll try to help.

more about pushkar

Hi there,
Thanks for you info so far. I have tried to look for RTDC accomodation on the internet but so far i seem to be only able to find really deluxe kind of hotels and some tents.
Ajay, do you know where I can go on the internet to find cheap accomodation - if there is any left. Or should I ring from Australia?
Thanks.

Pushkar camel fair

I'm thinking of including the camel fair in my itenerary - any advice on accomodation ie:

Tourist village or in town?

Should I arrive as the fair starts or a little before?

How far in advance should I book?

Thanks

Sorry can't help much more than the fact that I stayed at VK Tourist Palace back in Nov 1997! (Prob shut down now!)

Just turned up and found a room during the fair without problem.

The Camel Fair is fantastic by the way, a real spectacle, and do not miss the walk up to the mountain top temple - a great morning excursion!

So how many days does it go on for? Is it worth it to go for the first few days before everything winds up? It sounds wonderful and I'm really excited about going....even if it means being up all night from the "party noise"....
Has anyone stayed in those $100 tents?

Thanks, Mpop....I found a picture of the tents on some tour website....they look good, but I'm left wondering if they are a good value for the $....I'm fine with paying that if there are toilets that work, water that runs, beds that aren't like granite futons, and not unbearably hot or freezing cold at night...
Has anyone out there stayed in them?

pushkar camel fair

Is it worth to plan a trip to rajhastan around the pushkar camel fair? What is it all about, beside the trading of camels?
If anyone who went to the fair could give me an overview, I would really appreciate it . Thanks

I was there for the early part of the fair, before it got too crowded, and loved it. But I was very iterested in seeing all the animals. My friend and I spent many happy hours roaming around the fairgrounds and talking with the people about their camels and beautiful Marwari horses and we were warmly recieved. We saw very few other Westerners showing much interest in the animals though.

The town is wonderful too, very beautiful. And we spent many more happy hours shopping and just enjoying the lake. I would say, go for the fair if you are interested in the animals and/or like big crowds.
