Pushkar camel fair Oct/Nov 2009

I want to go to the Camel Fair this year but looking for a good group to join - preferably with a focus on photography. Can anyone recommend a good tour/group just for the fair? Has anyone done any trips with Gecko Workshops or read any reviews of them?

Remember that all hotels became very expensive if you don't have a reservation yet. I'm going to pushkar too

i am going as well. i have no reservation. i will stay in a tent if i have to. is finding accomodation really difficult ? i mean, it is definitely possible, right ? i have been paying 150-500 per night in my travels... is that doable ? if not, how much ? i may just stay a few days. when does the trading start ? oct 25 ?

I’ve been to the camel fair 3 times, but this year will be going to the Sonepur animal fair which is happening at the same time.
Rooms can always be found there anytime and the prices are usually cheaper than if booked over the internet. Rooms that were 300rs will be going for 1,000 to 1,200rs.
Best time for viewing the camels is 7 to 4 days before the end of the fair.
At 3 days before the end of the fair most of the camels will be gone and all of the people will be showing up.

thank you very much for the info. Ryan7611 - apparently the religious side of the festival culminates at the full moon - on 2 Nov I think.

Am still looking for tips on photography groups to join.

Here are some slideshows from my first trip to the Pushkar Camel Fair.
There are 5 slideshows at the bottom showing from the start of the fair to the last day.
This should help give you an idea of what to expect.

Here’s my other website where you can tour Pushkar and the Camel Fair with 360° Virtual Reality Photos. This should help you learn your way around.

How it Works: Open up one of the VR Photos to start your tour. Use your mouse click and drag the photo in any direction and the mouse wheel to zoom in and out.
Hotspots: You will see some red hotspots (red dots) they will take you to other locations.

And here are some GigaPan photos I shot where you can zoom in and move around to see all of Pushkar at night and day. These photos are shot with 50 or more photos, then stitched together to make one huge photo.

great slideshow! im even more excited for the fair. i am curious how much it costs to buy a camel. i would like to buy a camel at the fair and then sell it the next day. just to say i owned a camel. is this possible ? i will likely have to take a substantial loss but that is ok.

can anyone shed some light ? it sounds ridiculous but i am 100% serious about this
