We atayed at the Kiran guesthouse (last year), which if memory serves me right is in the LP, if not I'll try and dig out their card if you are interested. Was clean, quiet and the owners were very firendly and helpful. It has a nice raised sitting area and they do great food (try the homemade garlic pickle!). It's also reasonably near to the park and the bus stops.

IMHO there's more than enough accomodation in Bharatpur and surrounds. If you're arriving by taxi it would be ok not to book ahead. I'm sure you would find something to your liking and walk in customers get a better deal than telephone/e-mail customers.

Plus after looking around the hotel you will know whether it suits you or not!!

I expect Bharatpur will be pretty quite this year, as there is again no water in the Park, the migratory waterbirds being the main attraction!!

Bird park

thanks for comments. I have read that we are probably a little late for the migratory birds (last week of April). we especially had wanted to visit because our 16 year old son is is a keen bird watcher and breeder. Could you tell me a little about what the park is like and whether it is still worth a visit? Thanks

For a keen birdwatcher the park is certainly worth a visit, Even if the migratory birds are not present. There are a lot of local birds he may not have seen. Like the Yellow Legged Green Pigeon!!

There are plEnty of deer and jackal wandering about and you may see Porcupines and Jungle cats!!

We stayed at the Falcon Guesthouse in December which was very good value and is also recommended in the Hotel listings on this site. The monsoon was poor this year so there was little water and fewer birds than usual, but I would still recommend the park.
It is very peaceful, and therefore a good base from which to visit sights like the Taj mahal and fetepur sikri rather than horrible agra!

'Saras' is the hotel runs by RTDC. It is a good hotel to stay. I stayed in 'Babblers Guest House' runs by (retd.) maj. Raghubir Singh, very near proximity to the main gate of the sanctuary.Good rooms with geyser. It is also RTDC approved. It is quite reasonably charged. Good hospitality and homemade warm foods are also available.

Was just in Bharatpur staying at Falcon Guest House. I loved it! You won't find more helpful people. It is a 10 minute walk to the park. The park was the disappointment I expected, but the next day we proceeded out into the countryside with a guide by the name of Bani. Our goal was a beautiful peaceful reservoir where many of the birds have been wintering. There is a boarded up haveli about a km from the road. After eating our lunch there overlooking the birds and water we visited some bats, vultures and many villages. A very relaxing day in the country.

I have also stayed at the falcon guest-house (found it through Indiamike) and found it peaceful and nice. You can find two snapshots of the entry fee and other instructions here.
