Hello,
I am flying into Delhi on the 2nd of September and leaving from Mumbai on the 16th. I really looking for some advice on wether our itinerary is a wee bit too busy. We planned to do Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Jodhpur - Jailsamer - (Back to) Jodhpur - Udaipur - Mumbai. 1. Is this too much in 2 weeks? 2. If we had to skip on point what would you suggest to miss? 3. We have identified transport for the trip except for the Jailsamler - Udaipur leg. The norm would be to take the overnight train to Jodhpur and then a bus to Udaipur.... Is there an easier way? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ta. |

I may have calculated wrong, but it seems like you will be spending 6 to 7 days just traveling from place to place--unless you will be flying from place to place.
While traveling is certainly part of the fun, I'd say you are doing too much. Arriving in Delhi and leaving from Mumbai is a great plan, but heading off into the desert of Rajasthan needs more time. Maybe plan more of a straight line: Delhi, Agra, over to Jaipur, down to Udaipur and then pick some places that are easy to get to until you get to Mumbai. Or you may find you want to spend several days in 3 or 4 places. Our last trip we also arrived in Delhi and left from Mumbai. We went to Agra & Fatepur Sikri, then just went down through Bohpal, only because it was the midway point on the train to Mumbai. I'm not recommending that route--we had a month and spent it mostly in Maharashta & Goa. My above suggestion would be more interesting with the time you have available. It's better to do fewer things and spend more time in each place. India doesn't lend itself to a fast paced schedule! ![]() |

too much in one trip the roads are not the best and by the timne you get to your accomodation you will be tired. so hope you accomodation is up to the standard because you will be too tired to search for better. check on the train to Udaipur as the last time we loked it was under work in progress. If anything I would probably drop the Jaisalmer leg this time and take up more in Udaipur then go direct from Jodhpur go via Ranakpursyat overnight and its a nice trip over the hills into Udaipur.

Thanks for the advice CamelGirl and Davey. It may be oversteched but the really hard part is identifying which city/point to drop.
Would you recommend spending more time in Jaisalmer and Udaipur over Jaipur and Jodhpur? Do you have any knowledge of the camel safarhi avaliable from Jaisalmer? Are they good fun or am I going to get the hump... with the humps...? (Yes, bad, I know) Thanks Sandy |

It's the getting to Jodhpur & Jaisalmer that will take you too much time. If you go, you won't have any time in the other cities you want to visit.
I would suggest cutting out Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Just go from Agra to Jaipur. See the sights there for a day to two and then you can do either a day trip to Ajmer and Pushkar or even spend a night in either place. Preferbly Pushkar as there is more to see. Then head down directly to Udaipur. You could spend alot of time in Udaipur taking a day trip to Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, stopping along the way to see the temples at Ranakpur. There's plenty to do in Udaipur. You could spend half of a day just in the the City Palace and Museum. The way we've always approached India is knowing we will never see all the places we want to, we just plan to come back whenever or however long it takes! We have made it back 6 times (trip 7 coming up in October) with the longest break being 14 years between trips (due to my husband's health problems) .You will enjoy it more if you don't try to do too much! Plan B: If you are really keen on getting into the desert in Rajasthan, just spend all your time there and get a train from Jaipur or Udaipur directly to Mumbai a couple of days before you have to leave. You can do a short and painless 1/2 day camel trek into the desert from Jaiselmer. (we did and it was fun). |
