| Hi guys, has anyone visited Osian or Khimsar? I am trying to decide between the two. Also has anyone heard of this lake called sardar samand. Supposedly teeming with wildlife? I have a little baby and am loath to have the poor things' bones shaken on the roads for nothing. Appreciate any input or other suggestions for spending time in and around Jodhpur. thanks a bunch |

| Hi Also, I've been both Khimsar and Ossiyan. Khuimsar is not interesting at all, the only reason to stay is because is in the way to the Sekhawati and Jaisalmer with a nice Heritage Palace Hotel. In the other hand Ossiyan is one of the most impressive places in Rajasthan, in the middle of nowhere, crowded of very important jain temples as well as hindu. Really worth the time you spend there and the distance. No good hotels/guest house available. Jodhpur has many things to see in town as well as in Mandore etc. You can also spend a day or two with the Bishnoi people, not far from the city. Jorge |

| Hi Jorge, thanks for the info. Osian it is then. I have heard of the Bishnoi's- the worlds earliest environmentalists. That should be interesting as well. What about this Lake - Sardar Samand- have you any idea about it? Thanks. also |

| I'm sorry, have not been in balsamand lake and palace. All I know is that the palace is quite modern and the lake is one of the oldest artificial lakes in India (XII century). Jorge |

| Hello, How far is Osian from Jodphur? If I understood correctly is around 65 km...that in terms of hours' drive means? According to Lonely Planet the bus from Jodphur takes 1.30hours. Is that possible? |

| Saragat, Ossiyan is around 60 km north of Jodhpur. I don't remember how long it will take by bus but 1 1/2 hours is probably correct. You can also take the train: Jodhpur - Osiyan you have two trains daily: train 4059 06.20 - 07.37 train 4810 23.25 - 00.41 Osiyan - Jodhpur the same two daily trains: train 4060 20.03 - 22.00 train 4809 03.47 - 05.30 The first option trains 4059 & 4060 seems quite good to spend the whole day in Ossiyan. | OK - I'm trying to find Khimsar on the map - is this the correct spelling, and would it work as a stopover between Jaisalmer and Shekhawati? |

| I don't know about alternate spellings nor about the route but it gives 100,000+ google hits.

| Hmm - I thought I'd found a really good map site where you can ask directions - but maybe not so good? http://mapmyindia.com/index.htmOK - I googled it, it's right near Nagaur - the fort looks amazing but very expensive - worked it out at over $200 australian/night - Wonder if its worth it for a blow-out? Anyone know? Last edited by machadinha; Jul 17th, 2007 at 12:23.. Reason: merged posts |

| Khimasr is 41 km southwest of Nagaur on the road to Jodhpur. In a fictitious line between Jaipur and Jaisalmer is more or less exactly on the middle. Jorge |

*I don't use it a lot to be frank, perhaps too little. For quick reference I'll usually go http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/maps/all_india.htm or http://www.samit.org/irmap/index.htm . A place like this may well not be on either, of course. * Got my sites mixed up really, well whatever. Was thinking of http://www.mapsofindia.com/ instead. | |

| Probably there are several bus stations in Jodhpur, ask for the bus station to Ossiyan and go there early in the morning. I'm sure you'll find buses every half an hour. Jorge |
