One Month, One State: Rajasthan
For my graduation my parents will allow me to make my first lonely trip to India (I've already be in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with them). Coz i decided to visit evry State of this beautiful land I have got at least an entire month to dedicate to Rajasthan.
I've though about a circular trip starting and ending in Delhi or Jaipur; at now Id like to visit Jaipur Amber Ajmer Pushkar Bundi Kota Chittorgarh Udaipur Mt Abu temples complex (depends of the season) Dungarpur Barmer (and Kiradu complex) Jodhpur Osian Ranakpur Jaisalmer Bikaner One or two haveli's villages in the Shekaaswati My idea is to travel by bus (more flexible) and train. No matter if i will have to sleep on board or on a bus-roof. The most important thing is to complete my itinerary. Do you think it is possible? How many days for evry place i wrote? Other worthy location to go to? Thanks and greetings from Italy Last edited by machadinha : Dec 9th, 2007 at 16:03. Reason: merged threads, adjusted title |

Udaipur - Kumbhalgarh - Ranakpur - Jodhpur
Coming from Udaipur i though to visit Kumbalgarh fort on the way to Ranakpur and then sleep in Ranakpur. The day after id like to visit Ranakpur and take some transport (train or bus) to be in Jodhpur for sleep.
Is it doable? If not can i take an overnight transport to Jodhpur or do i have to spend a second night in Ranakpur and leave the morning after? Help me in finding transport plz ![]() Last edited by machadinha : Dec 9th, 2007 at 16:03. Reason: merged threads |

That's about 19 places in 31 days (including Delhi or wherever you'll land & take off). You do the maths.
By comparison, on a month's trip to Rajasthan & Gujarat I managed around 12; around 10, if you take into account one was two short stops in a transit point, the other my port of entry and exit. Your having been there before will help you in getting around, but there's still no reason to overdo it. I tend to even out (not just in India) at something like 2.5 days per place, between short hops and longer stays to draw some breath or just because you feel like it. That is, of course, just me, others will travel differently.

change of plan
After reading more tips on this board i have changed my plan:
Ill take the Ranakpur Express from Abu Road at 04:27 reaching Falna at 05:59, using it as base to visit Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh. After that i will go to Jodhpur using Ranakpur Express again from Falna. Is it a nice alternative? Transport (id rather use buses) to Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh? From Falna is it possible to visit Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh in a day? |

there is nothing particularly interesting about Falna - there is a Golden Temple there (Jain) that may be real gold in parts - I would think that rather than staying (have you found a place to stay??) there I would continue on to Ranakpur, which (although it is not a town) has several hotels - but do note that the temples can only be visited in the afternoon, which means that if you want to visit both sites in one day, you should go to Kumbalgarh in the morning. YOu might want to consider either arranging a taxi in Falna to take you around the circuit for a day or busing over to Ranakpur upon arrival in Falna, where surely your hotel could advise on transport, though when I tried for transport assistance from Shivika Lake they were not able to help much (except to offer a jeep pickup from Falna).

I didnt really think to visit Falna (except, maybe a quick look while staying).
Id like to know if there are some connections between Ranakpur and Kumalgarh and between Ranakpur and Falna and between Kumbalgah and Falna... |

you mentioned using Falna as a base I thought? I interpreted that to mean staying overnight there. There are definitely buses that run between Falna and Ranakpur - it is the way the Jains mostly get to Ranakpur for their pilgrimages (since its the nearest train station, also its on the bus route between Jodhpur and Udaipur. What I cant tell you is what the bus connections for Kumbalgarh are since we went there with a private care and never explored the bus angle.
