Hi,
I will be in Rajasthan next Feb and want to visit the Nagaur cattle Fair. Does anyone know what accomodation is like in Nagaur at the time of the fair? Is it necessary to book accomodation before arriving or are there plenty of places available, eg tents etc? Thanks James |

i plan to be at the fair as well next february and have just started looking into accommodations. i'll be sure to check back here, both get info and to share my own research. which guidebooks are you using?
you probably know that the jaisalmer desert festival follows the nagaur fair, the following week, i believe. did you and your girlfriend, like me, opt for the smaller naguar fair because it is a more local event than the more-for-the-tourists desert festival, or was it happenstance? should our itineraries intersect in naguar, perhaps we could meet for chai--and place bets on a camel race or two! good luck with your planning, which is half the fun, isn't it?

Hi Janice,
Well I have a LP book but actually find this site more usefull and interesting for answering specific questions. I stumbled accross the Naguar Fair while looking around for smaller places to visit around Jodhpur. We won't have time for the Jaisalmer fair because we leave India from Delhi the following week. Have you found any info on accomodation yet? I tried emailing the Rajasthan tourist dept but the email address was rejected. Would be good to share any info we find, and yes meeting up would be great - if we can find each other amoungst the camels! Can anyone help us ??? ![]() |

i asked about your guidebook because that can be a good place to start. i usually cross-reference with a few guidebooks and see if there are places on which they agree agree. i'm not a fan of LP in the hotels department. i traveled in sikkim which, like nagaur, is less visited than a lot of india destinations, so hotel recommendations are fewer.
i have three india guidebooks and a friend just loaned me three more dedicated to rajasthan. i'll let you know what they say about nagaur as soon as i've digested those sections. there's also some info about the fair itself here: Nagaur Camel Fair in February!?! sounds great, doesn't it? ![]() |

Hi,
I have been looking into this more but can still only find details on the Royal Camp within Nagaur Fort. It looks great but costs $275 for a double during the fair! (prices here)Does anyone have any details of cheaper accomodation? Thanks |

i, too, have come up empty-handed online...back to the books.
there are undoubtedly guesthouses and the like--we just need to find them! in the course of searching, though, i did come across this travelogue, with some positively stunning pictures of the fair, including a dancing camel! it looks like a not-to-be-missed experience, and i'm getting quite excited about it! ![]() |

!!! I just found this thread and this travelogue - it's one of the best things I've read about India travel.
I'm really going to see if we can get to this fair, even for a 24 hour visit. |

neeli, did you make it to the fair? my own trip plans collapsed, and the fair had been among the things i'd most looked forward to. if you did make it, what did you find in the way of accommodations?
the next clear opportunity i may have to visit now appears to be september--too hot before then anyway, i imagine--but it appears there's a dearth of festival activity then. |
