Mandawa Camps - Jaisalmer

Hi,

Another version of the Sam question again

Few of us are planning to spend 3 days in Jaisalmer.

1-2 day - We intend to visit forts, havelis, lake

2-3 day - Dunes, overnight and return.

We came across these Mandawa camps. Does any one have an idea as to how different or good these camps are from the Desert Safari camps? Any other suggestions pertaining to these camps?

Thanks in advance for your help.

S

Mandawa camps, skfrostie? Can you elaborate here - are they camps in Mandawa? Or do you mean the resort between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer which has a safari camp too - Manwar?

I did some googling and found that Mandawa camps are in the Sam area after Jaisalmer. So I guess they would be one of the numerous ones already in there. I am also planning a trip to visit the desert over the Xmas weekend. Came to hear about a resort in a place called Manohar in between Jaisalmer and Bikaner through a friend of mine. Couldn't get any other details. Request if fellow IMers can shed some more light on this place.

Thanks in advance!

Don't know about Manohar - I only know Manvar which is between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. It is very classy.

Hey Aishah, that's the one. Thanks & apologies for my confusion! After some analysis of this place, it seems that the resort's good (we're getting a good discount too ), but there's not much to do in there except the safari. Jaisalmer & Bikaner are too far away for single day excursions. Could you please provide any information on any fort, lake, haveli present close to Manvar?

No, sorry not really. I only know the resort itself - it has a fabulous garden and I reckon one day Mr K. and I will treat ourselves to an overnight break there. Just to relax in that garden, have a swim in the pool etc. will be my idea of 'heaven'! The cottages there are lovely too and the food excellent. They also have folk musicians around during the day - you could listen to them as well.

Thanks for that link, Sleepy. It's a newer website to the one I've seen previously - rather classy (there's that adjective again!) with quaint English. If you have a slow connection though, I think it might take a while to download. The photos are terrific and I can assure you it really is like it looks here. I have to confess, and I'm often mentioning this on IM, it's my favourite halfway stop between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur - to stretch my legs, use their spotlessly clean toilet facilities, and have a bite to eat along with the masala chai. Expensive but worth it!

Delete

Hi Aishah,

Just wanted to drop a note that we could delete this thread. Mandawa camps in Jaisalmer are some private players for tents. We anyways opted for the other commercial one - RDS / RDC. I've posted a thread with an extended narrative of the trip.

Thanks
Sandhya
