I tried to make a lunch reservation last October. I was told only residents could reserve tables. No great loss, I think: I can't imagine Lake Palace meals are superior to those of Jagat Niwas. Plus you can enjoy the view of the Lake Palace from Jagat Niwas, which is better than the view of Jagat Niwas from Lake Palace.

I'd second that nedhopkins! Also the Ambrai restaurant is good for food and views as previously mentioned..
