Red face lake shore hotel udaipur = nightmare!

Just a quickie to advise you all not to stay at the lake shore hotel in udaipur.
The manager is clearly mad - after confirming that we could stay 4/5 days at a reduced rate - 400, we were told the next day that we had to leave as a group were arriving. We protested (strongly) and stayed put.
On leaving he shouted that "we had not sought permission to use the washing line outside the room" this despite all other rooms using theirs.
So, all in all give it a miss. The rooms are pretty filthy too.

Interesting, this hotel was actually recommended by LP, but it have been sliding down over last years. Where is the bottom? Maybe next time it will not be included (now it figures in both India and Rajasthan guides).

Unfortunately it's not that uncommon for hotels to oust you if they have a chance to accommodate a group. But a quality operation will "walk" you to a "sister property", not just toss you out on the street without helping you make other arrangements.

Seems like the manager was the notorious Babu Fawlty.

I got the Heave-Ho from a Hotel in Chandigarh because of that. It was my fault because I had overstayed my booking. I asked politely to arrange something & they cleared out a Storage closet, installed a Charpoy and reading light & let me stay the extra night free.

Another thing like that happened with me several times in South India - because many hotels there actually demand to pay for your stay in advance they can throw you out in the street on last paid day without warning - just they book occupied rooms. This may be problem if you are on transit and do not know will be onward tickets available or will not. Posiible but not ideal solution - to pay for more days than you intend unless you have onward ticket in hands and on actual departure ask for change.
