Lake Pushkar dry?

Just had message from a Pushkar hotelier, saying that there is no water in the Lake right now - is this true?!
Or could it be a cunning ruse to have me stay at a hotel away from the Lake side during the Fair?

When I was there about 6 months ago they had heavy equipment in the half dry like and where digging it deeper. They had a big earth dam holding half the lake's water back from where they where working. I’m not at all surprised that its day now.

When I was there last November, they were dredging the lake. It seems that after the Durga Puja idols were immersed in the lake last year, all the fish died... so they were cleaning it out. Well, that's what they told me, anyway!

It would be awaful if the lake dried up ...

I don't think (or don't know) that there's a risk of that happening; it's just that if the monsoon fails, these lakes don't (properly) fill up that year.

Yes, it had been reported on here. After some initial incredulity on my part I think, there seemed to be something to it: Pushkar Fishes.

That thread started about two weeks before I left for India, and I was up to my ears in trying to finish my work, deal with the visa, and get packed ... so I missed that one! Thanks for locating it for me!

I have spent quite a lot of time speculating on just what sort of fish were living in the holy lake!

Y'r most welcome; from that thread, I seem to have remembered goldfish and carps there.

Wouldn't be able to tell you that now, and then memory does arguably play strange tricks on us, but...? Maybe someone can deny or confirm?

About time. Hope they can also cleanup some of those "For foreigner only - Indians not allowed" restaurants/joints along with the muck from the lake. Don't see any charm in visiting Pushkar anymore till the tourism industry gets wiser.
