I visited Udaipur in Feb'07. Lake Pichola was full of water. The best time to visit Udaipur is after Monsoon - October to March seems ideal to me.

Khamaghani,
As you must have noticed while in Udaipur , the place is surrounded by the range of Aravli hills, the water comes into the lake and on case of over flowing ,water gates to fateh sagar are opened so on there r little and big water resourvers r filled after Lake Pichola. It has been very good rain and water is touching the firt step of the Ghats on Ganguar Ghat. Beautifull, No More Cricket at the Dry Lake Pichola 2005. Oct -Feb best time to visit Udaipur. Regards Rathore |

Lake Pichola is a real treasure for the traveler, you can spend most of your time hanging around and finding always different views. Wish to be there.

I can't say I found New Year's to be very big in India no. It's not their new year after all
(I think?)Hotels in touristy areas will understand you want a drink or so, that's about it. Didn't stay at very classy places mind. My night was spent with the infamous "do you want wine for New Year's" query, upon which we ordered a box which turned out to be whiskey ![]()
