You could cover the two in a day from Udaipur, doing this by private care would be the best option!!

Both are easily doable in a day if you hire a private vehicle, which will help you plan better and save time. You caould also visit temples at Nagda which are on the way.

Yes, both are doable and yes, a car and driver is the way to go. I have the cell number of the driver we found in Jan./06 if you'd like. He ended up being our driver for the next long while. He lives in Udaipur. Hopefully he has his own car now...that was his plan/hope. Plus you get to see the countryside and stop whenever you want to take pictures...very cool.

I have his email address, too. Hope this doesn't infringe on IM guidelines. I have no affiliation with him other than the bond and friendship we developed while together.

hire a private car and go first to Kumbhalgarh, then have lunch and visit Ranakpur afterwards. If you start in Udaipur around 8 o'clock you can be back before darkness.
Both places are very interesting and worth seeing. Nagda is a little out of the way. To see the temples there which are also worth seeing though nowhere as beautiful as Ranakpur, you can go to Eklingji by Riksha or Bus and see them on the way. That would take you half day. anjuli |

Thanks All for your inputs. I have visited both the places by hiring a car and it costed me about 900 Rs. NO AC ofcourse. I saw Ranakpur inthe morning and the Kumbhalgargh Fort was magnificent when lit up inthe evening. Sad thing is that the fort is lit for just 1/2 hr I guess
