Kumbalgarh or Chittaurgarh ??

Looking at my itinerary it looks like I'll only have time to visit one or the other.

For those people that have ever been to both, which would you choose is the best?

Kumbhalgarh will be my choice. The fort and the approach to it is awsome. It is situated in a reserve forest. There is a resort practically inside the fort its a great experience to stay one night here.

Kumbhalgarh for it's stunning natural beauty as well as the fort!! I spent 5 days here and really enjoyed both the fort and the national prk which is a great day out!

Fact

The Chittorgarh is quite popular with the Indians primarily because of the romantic tale of Rani Padmini. Padmini was the beautiful wife of Rana Bhim Singh & she hailed from Srilanka. Infatuated with her Allauddin Khilji laid a sieze to the fort. Finally it was agreed that Allauddin could see her once by looking at her reflection in a mirror. Seeing her reflection Allauddin went berserk & ran to the mirror, at this moment Rana Bhim Singh threw his goblet & smashed the mirror. Allauddin returned to Delhi & only to come back with a larger force & laid another seize which continued for a long time. Everyday one general rode out & got killed. In this way all men died & their wives performed Jwahar i.e. burnt themselves to death. Allauddin entered the fort which had no living person.
The guides at the fort show where the mirror was & the staircase wher Padmini stood.

On the way to Jodhpur Id like to visit Ranakpur and the Kumbhalgarh fort. Considering that it isnt realistic to do evrything in a day, where i better sleep to visit both the places and then follow my itinerary to Jodhpur?
How can i reach Kumbhalgarh ---> Ranakpur---> Jodhpur from Udaipur?

If you are going by car then visit Ranakpur first then maybe stay the night at Kumbalgarh? Ranakpur is before Kumbhalgarh on the way from Udaipur. If you can check a map you will see you have to drive east from Ranakpur to Kumbhalgarh.
As for Chitt. or Khum. I've never been to Kumb. Chitt. is interesting however, but not much in the way of places to stay there outside the Fort. Sounds to me as if Kumb is the pick?

People have told me there is a bus to Ranakpur from Udaipur - but I don't know how you get across to Kumbhalgarh after that. Maybe someone who has done this can help you.

Thanks for the info: how much time get the road from Udaipur to Ranakpur?
Do Kumbhalgarh have accomodations, guesthouses or similia?
