Kiradu temples and stop over in Barmer

Hi,
I'm planning to do the Ahmedabad-Barmer-Jaisalmer-Jodhpur-Udiapur-Ahmedabad trip this december and was wondering if any of you could provide some information on the Kiradu temples near Barmer. I've read all the previous posts but don't seem to have come across anything more detailed than Natasha Chanda's review...

Would help if folks can provide contact details of the couple of hotels mentioned in that review. Essentially I'm looking at splitting the 600km long stretch from Ahmedabad to Jaisalmer into 2 parts..

Any and all suggestions welcome

Thanks
Shankar

I heard that due its prossimity to paki border, its necessary a permission of the District Collector or Police in Barmer to visit the temples.
How can i get it?
It will cost something to me?
How much time do i have to wait for it?

I did this in 1999 - and then it took almost 3 hours to get the permission as we were led from one department to another filling out many forms. By the time we got it, we just had enough time to view the temples before dark - a very rushed visit.
If you want to do this be sure to get your permission in the morning - we started around 1 p.m. It was a laborious, lengthy process with a lot of waiting around. We had a local man to guide us where to go - this turned out to be necessary. I don't think there was an actual fee for the permission, but i think we gave this man something like 200 rupees for his help in 'expediting' it. I was with Mr K (Indian) and he thought this was all correct and necessary.

Barmer was great!

Sometime back I read a a very descriptive narrative of the ruins in Barmer by Natasha Chandra here on this forum. Earlier this year, I managed to include a stopover there during our trip to Rajasthan and was really pleased for having taken this detour...
We stopped over at Barmer on our way to Jaisalmer from Ahmedabad. To our surprise there were a couple of good hotels in Barmer and lodged ourselves in one of them..
The next morning got some directions to the temple ruins and found it to be hardly 15 km from the city of Barmer. We were the only tourists when we got there and was amazingly tranquil and beautiful..Have caputured some of my moments here and suggest this place as a definite addition to their itinerary to folks who don't mind this detour...
Lastly, thanks again to Natasha Chandra for taking the effort for the directions and details..IndiaMike will be my first source of information for my future jaunts..

Cheers
Shankar

Thanks for feedback, Malkauns. If you are an Indian National do you need permission for visiting the temples? It looks as if you don't from your post...

Yes, I'm an Indian national and the information mentioned here seems to be right that non-indian citizens may have to get permission though I didn't see anybody scrutinizing / ensuring security etc..
