Kakoo camel safari

Hi,

I "stumbled" across the village Kakoo (75 k south of Bikaner) which is supposed to be a (picturesque)typical desert settlement from where you can start camel safaris.
Anybody bin there; recommendable or otherwise any orther suggestion for a camel safari a bit away from the hordes?
W're travelling by public transport, backpackingstyle but (if really worth the experience) we could spent some money.
We hope to be in Rajasthan somewhere in March.
Hope you can give us some tips,
Thanks a lot in advance
Mea

For camel safaris around Bikaner, best person to contact is Camel Man - www.camelman.com

I have never heard of Kakoo camel safari but if someone has,it sounds delightful. Probably one of the most totally isolated places for a safari is at Manvar between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer and the safaris are arranged by the very upmarket Resort (it is beautiful)but the prices are hugely expensive. You do get a fantastic experience for your money however.
Safaris from both Bikaner and Jaisalmer can be arranged to go to very non-touristy places and you can find yourself in quiet isolation in the desert from both places. No need to book ahead for any of them, wait till you get to your destination then ask around.
