cant answer your 1st Q. As for the 2nd, i assume you're talking about the camel fair. If so, from my experience of arriving a coupla days before i was still able to find a room. It seemed that the prophesies of everything being booked up weeks in advance were a bit off.
That said, it was 3 years ago and maybe arriving the day it actually starts could be a problem... |

you should book a room/tent in advance, it is definitely not cheaper when you get there and look around personally. Plus it might be a hassle, as any hotels are in fact fully booked and many camps do not rent out tents for people who are not booked.
You will not enjoy the fair when you have to worry about a room! Economic tented accommodations are also provided by Princess Trails, however they have limited tents. Contact: marwarihorses@web.de The drive from Udaipur to Pushkar takes about 5-6 hours, depending on your driver. Interesting to see on the way is Eklingji Temple (22km away from Udaipur). Further on there is not much to see except for a gorgous landescape. It is spectacular to first cross the Aravallis and then come down into the semi desert around the Thar. |

there is a thread here on accommodation in Pushkar - check it out, and I would book ahead. For a very cheap, basic but clean accommodation try Purple Garden - no washbasins in bathrooms, some with indian toilets btw. Email - purplegardenhotel@yahoo.co.in

U should book a room/tent in advance as PUSHKAR is very crowded around that time & prices escalate like anything.
Udaipur would be around 6-7 hours drive from Pushkar. |

It depends on what car (with or without AC) you want. Minimum it would be INR 6/- per KM. You also have to pay the return charge of the cab back to Jaipur. Jaipur to Agra is around 230 KMs.
