Just wondering if anyone could give me their preferences on Jodhpur in comparison with Jaipur and in comparison with Jaisalmer....
I am going to end up spending NY eve in one of these places (not sure where yet) - Assuming I only have about 10 days to spend in the area, where would everyone allocate the days? From my reading Jaisalmer seems amazing.... So excited!!!!! |

If it was New Years eve I would choose Jaisalmer. Holiday times it may be nicer to be around people who you can relate to you or someone from the same country so you to share this with. Jaisalmer is basically a tourist area while Jodphur is basically more of a city.
Give the choice I would definitely go with Jaisalmer. Mike |

Excellent advice and just as I suspected....
Now I have the dreaded task of attempting to work out how to not be travellling nyeve - logistical nightmare but I am sure I can work it out if I fly from Agra to Rajasthan.... Looking forward to Jaisalmer a lot! |

Don't know Jodpur... but Jaisalmer is great...
Try to stay in one of the guest houses in the fort... if it wasn't for the "internet" signs, you would feel 200 years years back in time... Hot pick |

the Merangar (SP?) fort in Jodhpur is superb! I saw very few westerners in all of Jodhpur, and there seemed to be a hum of activity that was quite vibrant. 15 years ago you could swim in the inderground pool at the palace outside town.
15 years ago Jaisalmer had already descended into a touristy tout-filled ripoff with a nice fort. so as you see, my info is old

Any guest houses in particular? We were thinking of staying in a nice hotel for this part of our trip - just so that we can stop the rushing around and relax.... but the guest house sounds cool...

Jaisalmer
We stayed at the Paradise GH in the fort in 1996. Some of the rooms have views over the city below and their roof terrace is opposite the Royal Palace. Here's a pic taken from the Palace. |
