Jodhpur-Udaipur-Bundi-Delhi
Hi everybody,
What do you think about this itinerary (part of a 3 week travel): Day 1) Buss/Taxi from Jodhpur to Ghanerao (Night: Ghanerao) Day 2) Visit of Ranakpur&Kumbalgarh, arrival at Udaipur (Night: Udaipur) Day 3-4) Udaipur&surroundings (Nights: Udaipur) Day 5) Chittorgarh (Night: Bassi) Day 6-7) Bundi (Nights: Bundi) Day 8) Bundi-Kota-Bharatpur (Night: Bharatpur) Day 9) Bharatpur-Delhi Is there some place I should add/delete from the itinerary? I also wonder if anybody has been to Ghanerao, Bassi or Bharatpur or some other "hidden places" in that area of Rajasthan? I would appreciate a lot your opinions! Thanks in advance! ![]() |

You have not mentioned when you are doing this. Bharatpur is a bird sanctuary, winter is the time to visit it.
You have not included Agra. Although you are visiting Jodhpur you have not included Jaisalmer. There is a resort and other accomodation at Kumbhalgarh. A night halt here is recommended. |

Hi Jyotirmoy,
Thanks for your comments! Our travel will be in August and we'll visit Agra and Jaisalmer before going to Southern Rajasthan. Is it worth to visit Barathpur bird sanctuary in August? |

It is not worth visiting Bharatpur in August. One day is sufficient at Udaipur.
You have written that you will take bus/taxi. You can hire a cab at Udaipur to visit Ranakpur & Kumbhalgarh. Where are you landing in India? If you are landing in Delhi there are train options too. Have a look at posts in Rajasthan forum. August will be hot & humid. Expect rains in Delhi and Agra. |

Don't worry about the rain since most of the Spanish people just travel in July and August.
Yes I had been in Ghanerao long ago, it is non touristy place near Ranakpur in middle of the mountain range. But as far I think still your route is not very well organized. How you rea planing your route from Delhi onwards? There are lot of places one the near Jodhpur and Udaipur like Ghanerao, Rohetgarh, Khimsar, Manwar, Kumbhalgarh, Luni ( fort chanwa), Rawla Narlai, Vijaypur Castle etc. these all the places are offthe beaten trek. Normally people visit all these places to see Real Indian rural life. On place is also recomondable near Bundi is Raj Mahal, it's really beautiful. I don't know for how many days your are visiting this area? Wish you all the best. |

Just looked your itinerary Marco Polo and I think it looks fine. Combine with some of previous suggestions, skip Bharatpur - Basi Fort is near Bijaipur Castle (I think this is what Rajuindia is referring to when he says Vijaypur Castle) and a little less costly. It is an excellent place to stay.

Nice itinerary! Something out of the ordinerary.
Udaipur is worthwhile 2 days! Don't skip! Ghanerao is a nice place, however there is not much to do, except going horsback riding. As an alternative you could stay in Ranakpur directly and use the time exploring the temple and the extremely scenic Ranakpur valley. It is the perfect place to break the journey Jodhpur-Udaipur and you can experience something in between. Chittorgarh is also very interesting and staying in Bassi is a dream! It is even worthwhile spending one more day there as the wildlife sanctuary is interesting as well as Bassi village. And take plenty of time to see Chittorgarh Fort! It is worthwhile, I passed through it on my way to Kota once and had not nearly as much time as I would have like to have! Bundi is nice, but Kota is also interesting. Visit the city palace and take a walk in the old town. There are hardly any tourists, but much to see! August is not the time to visit Bharatpur as there are not many interesting birds to see. Winter is definitely much better! Bijaipur, in order to clarify this, is situated near the Ajmer-Udaipur road (national highway no.8) and quite far away from Bassi. It is also a nice Heritage Hotel, there are so many these days. |

Hi All,
Thanks for your kind answers!!! Finally we decided to stay one night in Ranakpur and see Kumbalgarh, three nights at Udaipur, one night in Bassi (Bassi Fort) and 2 nights in Bundi. After Bundi we'll visit Kota in the afternoon and we'll take the night train to Delhi (23:55-06:30). In Ranakpur we doubt to stay at Ranakpur Hill Resort or Shivika Lake Hotel. What do you recommend? In Bundi we want to stay at Haveli Katkoun Guest House, but I've sent 2 E-mails to raghunandansingh@yahoo.com in order to book and I haven't got any answer. We'll go in August so maybe it's not needed to book anyway, especially in Bundi. Do you recommend another guest house? ![]() |

However, you're not going to have trouble finding a room in Bundi in August. Haveli Braj Bhushanjee (www.kiplingsbundi.com, as mentioned above) is very nice, although a little overpriced - maybe you can negotiate an out-of-season discount. |

In Ranakpur, stay in the Ranakpur Hill Resort. It is a great place, offering nicely furnished rooms or tented accommodation.
I am not familiar with the other place, but this one is a great place to stay. The restaurant is also offering good food. |

Just to say that I have not only tried to email Haveli Katkoun, but also tried to call and got a "this number does not exist". After that I gave up on them.
