could anyone tell me if trains are still running from marwar junction to mavli on the jodhpur to udaipur/chittaurgarh line.
is this line out of service due to gauge conversion. footprints say 'the views along this line are very picturesque indeed' there is no mention of this line in 'trains at a glance' alternative bus routes not needed, i try to avoid long distance bus travel wherever i can. thanks. |

i have tried the website, and others. i think the website is the same as 'trains at a glance' in that it only does trains that you can book/reserve, (mail/express trains) and not passenger trains. is this correct? i was hopeing someone was in that area or had been there recently. |

Special Trains
Click on "special trains" - train 222 & 252 Marwar - Udaipur - but this needs more than 7 hours for about 160 km.
Anyhow - Kumbhalgarh - Deogarh - Udaipur is my "Golden Triangle" - but it works only by car. |

different direction
Sorry, it's also only Udaipur - Marwa. Best is really to get a car and explore the surroundings inclusive of Ranakpur - with Persian Wheels and a mideval touch.
I never saw any train while travelling around. Our fuel is quite expensive - 30 Rs. for one ltr. of petrol - hence you will have to bargain - but not to the bottom line. Gerlinde |

to gerlinde,
thanks, i had never clicked on special trains, i thought it would just be pallace on wheels etc. also, if a train goes one way, logic says it must go the other way as well, oh no, this is india, logic? never mind, ime sure i can still fit it in, maybe three taxi's back via deogarh and kumbhalgarh. sounds great fun. ![]() |

Logic
Steven, even Jet Air has one flight no. to go from Delhi to Trivandrum and two for returning. While going you can stay at your seat, while coming back you have to change the planes.
But look forward to Deogarh, Kumbhalgarh, Ranakpur and Udaipur! It's not only fun - it's an amazing part of this huge country! Give me a mail about your experiences when you are there. Gerlinde |

my boss, (london underground) has 'forced' me to add another nine days to my annual leave, giving me seven weeks in rajasthan and gujarat. how i will miss the rain and the wind in london. but if i'me forced to spend another nine days in rajasthan, then deogarh, kumbhalgarh and ranakpur are what i will have to endure, its a hard life. it is not long enough in rajasthan/gujarat, but it's enough time to work out places i would like to go back to, unfortunatly it will only add to the list of many other places in india i would like to go back to, how i would love to go to nepal, thailand, cambodia, china, etc. but if your totaly happy with your hollidays, why change them. |

That's some boss you got there. I don't know how you put up with those kind of working conditions.

more days
Steven, then you could take following small places also into consideration: Dungarpur (110 km south of Udaipur) or Bijaynagar ( about 1 hour south of Ajmer) or Pachewarhgarh (south of Jaipur) or Pachar (north of Jaipur). Around Jodhpur also Luni is nice.

more places
Ranthambor - the tiger safari town Shekhawati - maybe you can help start a special restoration fund for some of the havelis Bharatpur - all the birds should be there by the time you arrive (Or have you already planned to see all these places anyway?)
