Regarding the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur buses, do these buses ply even in early Feb when the peak tourist season has gone.
Are these buses semi-deluxe type? |

These buses go all the time all year round. The majority of their passengers are Indians, not tourists. They are the major form of transport for people going from one town to another when they are not on the railway line. So while you book your seat to travel from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur or vice versa, you will find along the way many village people are taken aboard to get to the next village. Semi-deluxe or deluxe? I think they are classed as Deluxe but deteriorate to semi-deluxe over time!!! Just over the last couple of years there have been quite a number of brand new buses bought and the old ones seem to have disappeared so my guess is the state of them is quite good. I haven't travelled on them for around 4 years now - not since we acquired a car and now my own!

I came back on 1st JAn.
My trip was quite challenging.... did Camel safari... without which it would have been waste. Jaisalmer hotel Golden City was very bad. Hotel GOVIND was excellent. Camel safari at khurie was fun. |

Bombaytite - How did you travel between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer in the end? Hotel Govind in Jodhpur? This is very handy to railway station and has a nice rooftop restaurant.

Bombaytite - Mr K and I are interested to know which temple? There is a Hanuman Temple in Hanuman Chouraha near the Circle, and we are wondering if it is this one? That is just an appalling story.

Most Important thing I learned... sad but true.... INDIANs are not respected in Jaisalmer!!!! Hotels/travel agents dont give any respect to Indian Residents... they prefer foreigners to us! If u carry LP book and act that u from outside... there is a lot of importance. May be its all to do with economy but i think its sad.

Oh, Bombaytite, I am really sorry to hear this, but please don't base this assumption on the whole of Jaisalmer. I personally know that equal respect is given to both foreigners and Indians in many guesthouses and hotels. You have had a bad experience in one hotel which you have posted here as a warning to others, but to most of us living here, no one differentiates between foreigners, NRI's or resident Indians who come as visitors. Since the course of living here over 8 years, I have come to meet and make friends with many resident Indians from other parts of India, who have told their families and friends to come to Jaisalmer and we have subsequently met. People from Bengal, Mumbai, Nashik, Gujurat, Pune, Kolkata, H.P., U.P.,Tamil Nadu, Madya Pradesh - just off the top of my head. All lovely people with whom we shared some nice chatting.
I'm really sorry you are feeling this badly, and as far the economy goes all business is equal as far as I'm concerned and a customer is a customer no matter where they are from. |

No hard feelings with good people of jaisalmer... the fact doesnt change that most (& not all) people i met i realised that dollars was important.
Places to eat or stay or bookings or for internet i chatted with 5-8 people & understood the local psyche... how much tip a foreigner leaves behind compare to an Indian matters a lot!! I dont blame any 1 but state of this country. I did meet good very good people infact ... but numbers were too less. Second example in Jodhpur Fort.... foreigners had seperate line for ticket & was well organised with 2 security staff managing. For local indians... no guards & no que!!! Army guys were most rude & aggresive. I felt very sad & shameful for we indian. It just doesnt end. My experiance was not same at LEH or LADAKH. |
